Is that yours or someone elses'? I remember that it's a newly acquired car to whoever's stable that is...the pics were posted a few months back. Love the smoked headlights.

Hi-jack. Because if you view this car like most people do, which is simlply a replacement for (or, in other words, something to outdo) the F40, then this makes perfect since. In that light, the F50 sucked. It even got beaten out in power to weight ratio. But that's not how I view it, nor do I think it was designed around that purpose. The F40's lineage, as far as I know, can be traced to the 308. I.E., 308, 328, 288 GTO, 288 GTO Evoluzione, F40. Obviously the similarites are minimal, but they're still there. The F50 had nothing to do with that. It was the beginning of Ferrari's expression of F1 in a road car. The first Ferrari with a full carbon fiber tub, not carbon kevlar as in the F40, the first with inboard mounted pushrod actuated suspension, somewhat active aerodynamics, a motor descended from an F1 car, etc. It was a design excercise that continues with the Enzo and will continue with the next Ferrari supercar, with each car being a different interpretation of Formula 1 than the last. I feel like this car gets swept under the rug because people hold it up to the "standard" of the F40, but I don't think Ferrari really meant it to be taken that way. Ferrari didn't feel it had a standard to live up to, they just wanted to express something new. That is why this is my favorite Ferrari of all time, and I think it deserves more than people give it.

Excellent summary and expression... apart from the active aero... F50 has no such thing. The front suspension can be raised for kerb crawling.....

Beautifully put. You couldn't have expressed the way I feel more precisely! The F50 is my absolute favorite road Ferrari of all time, bar none. It's amazing. It makes me shiver when I look at it, and my body tenses when I hear the bark of it's exhaust!!!! If true love is real, this is it! What a car, what a car!

I was never sure about the F50. The first time I saw one in the flesh was at the opening of the Penske group Scottsdale Ferrari. I thought it looked too soft and rounded. Of course it was just on display and was not started. It was not a valid replacement for the F40, I thought.
Years later I was in the same dealership and there in the service area was a F50 with the engine idling. It sounded almost industrial. The techie was in the car and he revved the engine. The sound was other worldly. I knew in that instant that this was really the king of supercars.
I have never felt the rush I had when I drove that beast home. It was simply so....competent, in a quietly confident manner like it knew it had no equal on the planet. I still believe that, although the CGT is pretty close.
The Enzo is really not even a factor here as it has become a caricature of a supercar.
For now, the F50 reigns supreme. Even EVO in a test of the four Ferrari supercars, side by side, concluded that the F50 was the real supercar among the rest.

I was referring to the radiator fans that double as suction for the front of the car...didn't know if that would qualify or not. Thanks!!

well, it's not really "active", but yes, it does reduce lift and drag.
