That was Speedweek this August. I was in the credentals line with the owner/operator, who was not very friendly, maybe because I was running a lowly motorcycle. Sure had snazzy uniforms though.

That'd be just dumb. Anyone who's seen the pic of Rowley Free on his return run setting the Vincent Black Lightning motorcycle world record gives the bike guys max respect.
On his first run the collar of his leathers cut into the throat flapping, so he took them off for the return.
Rollie had his own distinctive riding position as you can see.
    Rollie at 150.313 mph.

motorcyclist at the Bonneville car events have always been looked down on. Dont know why.

but it got tiresome and some folks started our own event... for motorcycles ONLY. And we dont set "club" records like at the SCTA/USFRA/BNI events. Records set at the Bub's Motorcycle Speed Trails are true national and world records as certified by the AMA and the FIM.

The SCTA/USFRA/BNI set forth some really dumb rules regarding motorcycle safety gear and class designations. Ticked alot of people off.

the rules for the 200MPH Club got a little ridiculous as well. Setting minimums for motorcycles that were well over 200mph because it was allegedly EASY to set a record over 200mph on some of the new bikes... bullpucky. So the 201MPH club was started.

Lots of bike riders will never attend Speedweek or any of the other events again.

note the #1 AMA plate on my bike in the avatar picture :D

That's depressing to hear, but certainly good news you guys wouldn't cop it sweet, jacked up on the fools and held a better shindig.
    Thats a great response.
    Rollie would've approved.

Re the SCTA bike rules, some are overkill and some that are common with other associations (ie safety wire drain plugs) dont exist.

I have done SCCA and IMSA as well as AMA, and SCTA and found that SCTA has less suprises at tech.

The tech guys are ok by me; they will let you run with non major infractions and note them in the logbook to get fixed next time.

Re safety gear I am never going to argue with that; BNI has never had a motorcycle fatality.

granted... but some of the rules have been made re. motorcycles without consulting anyone from the bike world... and some of them straight up dont make sense. Safety wire is a no brainer. Stuff like requiring non perfed leathers? Makes ya wonder.

I personally like all of the guys that do SCTA/BNI/USFRA tech. Some have helped me out to no end on the salt, and I've run against some of their personal records. And yes I've run with some stuff that didnt meet the letter of the rules, but on bikes that werent going to be doing big numbers it didnt really matter.

But that doesnt make some of the rules right. There were enough like minded motorcyclists that felt like they werent being listened to that a new event sprung up.

Its a non-issue now that the AMA is involved and runs its own event.

Taking my bikes there one day is on my top ten things to do before I die list.
