Before I begin, let me say that I have been to my GP and I do have an appointment to see a gastroentenologist in October, but it can't hurt to ask here too because my doctor was stumped. All summer, for the last 3 months, my stomach has been pretty bad, bowel movements have changed in frequency, some periods of constipation, some of diarhea, I get bloating and nausea if I eat the wrong things, and my stomachs just generally been messed up. Along with that, my ultrasound showed an enlarged spleen, which leads me to think its a parasite, but I also have had a lot of stress this summer which leads me to think IBS, although my GP doesn't think its necessarily IBS, nor has she done a stool sample to confirm if its a parasite. The next symptom is a sharp stitch in my lower left abdomen (by the pelvic/ hip area) when I walk or bike, usually soon after beginning the exercise. I've reeled in the stomach symptoms a little by modifying my diet, but its not going away completley. I'm thinking chronic giardisis but I'd like to hear what a trained doctor thinks of the whole thing. Thanks guys.

Read your post to my significant other who is an MD at Baylor. Based upon the details of your post, his response was "IBS, IBS, IBS". He said he wasn't sure why your GP was having difficulty diagnosing unless there was more than what was revealed in the post.

He said if you own an F-car, and his diagnosis turns out to be correct, you owe him an hour ride in your car. :) Your profile doesn't list a car so cash works too.

There are a couple of other directions to go, but see your gastro doc.

Why can't you see someone this month? I've been able to get appts. quicker by calling to see if there are cancellations or waiting in the office.

The only thing that I wonder about is the bad stitch while walking/ biking I didn't have before, which seems like its caused by something tangible rather than just a 'brain gut interaction' and the englarged spleen which points to parasites...

Dude, I am an expert in this field. See a gastroenterologist, get scoped if advised. No big deal-Versed is all that, but try to remember what you ate. Amoebas are sneaky little ****s (pun). Let me know how it turns out.

I'm not a doctor, so I don't give out medical advice, but you might want to read up on the symptoms of diverticulitis, just to see if that's a possibility. I had a short, painful bout with it a couple of years ago. Good luck!
