Companies should already be embracing working from home where it can be done. If you don't trust your employees; why did you hire them? Unfortunately there are still a fair few companies that operate as if its the 70/80s and expect you in the office all the time. It has a negative affect on productivity, retention and recruitment and as said has a negative impact on overheads.

As to hot desking, that model is already used a lot here in the UK. It can work but only with sensible ratios. I have one client that in my view has taken it too far; 6-7,000 in an office designed for 3,000 (or there about!). Its horrid all round; not enough personal space, not enough decent IT, not enough meeting rooms, not enough bathrooms, not enough parking, no quiet etc etc. Again has a negative impact on moral/recruitment and retention.

A lot depends on your workforce. I work with a good proportion of milennials and they absolutely want an office. To them, the office XBOX, ping pong tables, snacks, lunch, and "cool decor" are keys to what they look for in a workplace. For them, work really is "college after college"

Thanks A348W and zygomatic for your comments. Much appreciated.

I think I'll escape into retirement before hot desking becomes a rule. Can't stand the idea of it. I don't need the millenials' "college after college" but I do like my desk setup the way and with the equipment I want and not have to bother about that every day. A laptop doesn't make a workplace by itself.

There was a big feature in the FT about open-plan offices having a negative effect on both creativity and productivity.

With coughing and germ distribution they now seem an even worse concept !

Less budget airlines clogging up the air with predominantly non-essential flights can only be a positive for the planet.

And Ryan Air planting a few dozen trees does not offest their carbon footprint, or the misery inflicted upon their passengers :D

    f) insert hundreds of other odd-jobs here
    can work from home.

Jean Todt made a statment that he believes they will have three to four races per month possibly even with spectators this year. He thinks they will reach 15 races this season.

Maybe they'll even learn to like it that way and permanently go for 15 races in say 18 weeks. Cuts out 99% of all the development crap, just build it and race it. This would be the great cost savings F1 has been looking for. Shorter seasons, longer lay-offs, smaller salary costs. Even for the drivers...don't pay them as much since they'll have lots of the year left to go racing in other formulas.

President Macron spoke to the nation tonight and announced two main things: confinement continues until May 11 and no major public events till mid July at least.

Hence the French GP at Paul Ricard cannot take place June 28, expect the official confirmation of that by the organizers tomorrow. It should however be one of the easiest races to reschedule.

"Home working" only concerns a few jobs.

People working in transport, in tourism, in heatlh service, in retail, in the industry, and many other sectors of activity CANNOT work from home.

If they move the race more towards the fall, that might actually be a plus for the region.

If some European GPs are held too late in the year, they may bring the problem of tyre temperature (or lack of).
Usually GPs are scheduled on the calendar taking account of the weather at the time in different countries.

Completely agree off course. It was meant as a generic statement for where it is possible to work from home.
Completely agree off course. It was a generic statement more aimed at those companies that are somewhat behind the times!

    Update SF1000...

Ferrari are rumored to be debuting the 2020 PU Evo 2 once the F1 season starts. The PU we saw during testing (Evo 1) will not be used, instead an evolution of that will. This new PU is rumored to be recovering widely the PU loss that happened after the FIA investigations.

The PU Evo 2 still has to complete the bench tests (the factory is closed atm).

Those are the rumors and it is coming from Nugnes so we will see.

  24. 'Sounds good but 't'ain't necessarily so. 'Still depends on contracts....with all the dealings dependent on many things, like what drivers you have......teams don't want the risk of injury or worse in other endeavours which would upset the apple cart....
