They probably got tired of hearing how the Indy 500 was once again 1000x better than the Monaco GP.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I have never seen the attraction of a car launch anyway.

No? I think up until around 2020 I always looked forward to it. I remember in 2003 when Ferrari introduced the F2003-GA and was stunned at the revolutionary undercut sidepods. In 2004 I was wrongfully disappointed, thinking it was barely an upgrade over the GA. 2012 when Ferrari switched to OZ wheels. Good times for me.

The FIA has allegedly parted ways with another senior staff member, with compliance officer Paolo Basarri reported as having been dismissed from the governing body.

According to a report from the BBC, Paolo Basarri will no longer hold the role of the governing body’s compliance officer, a role he has occupied since 2017 under Jean Todt’s presidency.

That's not a win. I used to settle in an watch Monaco, Indianapolis 500, and Coca Cola 600 in one day. A great day to be a couch potato.

Watching those two was already a lot for me since I want to enjoy nature on a Sunday and don't like to be cooped up inside. So to add the rednecks turning left for 600 miles would be beyond indigestive. But to each his own, good for you:)
I haven't watched taxi cab racing since Montoya...Funnily enough I have no problem binge watching Le Mans but that's because I used to attend as a teenager and later as a journalist for Cavallino. I would barely sleep a couple of hours, if that, through the race, so I am primed for it.

Makes me wonder how much divide is going inside the FIA behind closed doors. It almost seems like a bunch of folks didn't align with top FIA blokes or Liberty Media. Or they used these people as scapegoats for all the hate they have been getting recently.

Either way it seems very filthy in the way the FIA is ran.

F1 announces Canadian GP date move to “rationalise” 2026 calendar
Montreal date change means it can be linked with Miami and avoid short spring criss-crossing of the Atlantic from 2026 F1 season

In a statement issued on Monday, F1 said that the Montreal race is “planned to be scheduled on the third or fourth weekend of May each year”, rather than mid-June as it has typically been held in recent seasons.

Wow. FIA melt down continues lol -- https://www.planetf1.com/news/sacked-senior-fia-steward-running-out-of-people-warning

Tim Mayer has been relieved of his Formula 1 stewarding duties by the FIA, and he has said the governing body is “running out of people to do those jobs” after multiple recent departures.

These comments come after it has been widely reported that Janette Tan, who had been set to replace new Formula 1 race director Rui Marques in the role of race director for Formula 2 and Formula 3, has also left the FIA.

Tim Mayer: FIA ‘running out of people’ in senior positions after recent departures
Marques replaced Niels Wittich ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix as race director, and Tan’s reported departure means he is set to take on duties in both Formula 1 and Formula 2 in Qatar this weekend.

Mayer, a long-serving FIA International Steward who has officiated in multiple series around the world, said the combining of jobs for Marques after the loss of Tan, whom Mayer described as “the best of the next generation of race directors”, is a tough situation to manage for motorsport’s governing body.

“I know how hard both of those jobs are,” Mayer said to BBC Sport.

“I like Rui a lot, but it will put him under incredible pressure.

“There aren’t a lot of ‘platinum-level’ FIA race directors, which is the FIA’s highest level certification. I’m one of them. It’s a lot of work and, if you are doing the job right, you wake up every day with an ulcer thinking of all the various things you need to be thinking about.

“They’re not doing themselves any favours. They are literally running out of people to do those jobs.”

As for his own departure, Mayer revealed he learned he lost his position by text message earlier this week, claiming FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem “took offence” at the wording of a right of review appeal lodged by the Circuit of The Americas, after race organisers were fined €500,000 (€350,000 suspended) for a track invasion at October’s United States Grand Prix.

Mayer was acting in his capacity as sporting organiser in the appeal against the fine, having worked on behalf of all three races in the United States.

“For a federation that relies on volunteers to fire by text somebody who has made a significant contribution does not speak well of the management of the federation,” he explained.

“The official reason that will be given is they felt there was a conflict of interest with the FIA as I had led the right of review in my role as organiser.

“But that is not why I was fired. Being an organiser is a role that I have fulfilled, benefiting the FIA, for over 12 years. This isn’t new.

“In spite of the matter being resolved quietly and amicably, he’s still upset and decided to fire me. After 15 years of volunteering my time as a steward, a decade teaching other stewards and hundreds of hours volunteering in other roles, I got a text from one of his assistants.”

Everyone is calling for the head of MBS but I can't help think of how bad the Stewards have been for so long. Maybe this Tim guy should have been fired long ago.

Diaagree. The drivers want better rules and consistency. Will not have that if all keep getting fired. MBS clearly the issue

I don't know. Everyone including the drivers want fair and consistent. For at least a decade the Stewards have not been fair and certainly not consistent. If Tim was a constant during this time, seems logical to let him go.

F1 to host final Dutch Grand Prix in 2026
Zandvoort to disappear from the calendar after 2026

Formula 1 and the Dutch Grand Prix promoter have announced a one-year contract extension which will see Circuit Zandvoort remain on the Formula 1 calendar through the 2026 season. After much consideration and discussion, the decision has been taken by the promoter not to remain on the calendar after 2026.
The race at Zandvoort has to go without government support, making it entirely dependent on sponsor and ticket revenue. "No, we are not angling for crowdfunding or other suggestions that might come along now. We are stopping for good," Van Overdijk said.
