Did anyone else see the beginning of the Italian Gran Prix this morning? Spoiler alert - wreck at the start, standard Mercedes safety car comes out but in a close up of the cars attending to the accident I spy a 348 F1 safety car! Who has more information about this?

That car is a fixture at Monza. Its been used for over 15 years i beleve. Look at old mid 1990s Monza F1 races and you will see it.
If i recall correctly it was a gift fron F1 driver Berger to a marshal. I am not to clear on the story but its along them lines.

Yes I saw it too. It is the same car (I think) that came out during the 94 race when Ratzinberger and Senna Crashed in 1994. It was also in the movie Senna. They were a safety crew and we lugging fire support systems from the hood.

Car looked to be in good shape!

That was great, it must have been part of the safety crew.

Would be hilarious to learn that it is still on its original factory belt.....

would be even more hilarious if the car was factory owned and its belt actually failed as they were using it to support that F1 race. Perhaps they would then feel some of the pain felt by owners the world over who have had/or live in fear of it happening to them!

My car has just 5K miles on the clock (sorry but I'm now teflon to the garage queen accusation) but due to the design/recommended belt change interval its on its 3rd belt change (so 4th belt).

Agreed! Took possession of my T less than a month ago, already over 1000 added to the clock (now just over 8000)

    Depends on the model.

There was a discussion about this in a thread not too long ago (1-2 weeks ago).

The SS (Speciale Series) is chrome, along with some a different model (which I cannot recall, but I think it might have actually been the Challenge series)

Sorting through some of my images from Monza 2012 today, this image caught my curiosity. I checked the plate number against the 348 which worked the start at Imola in '94, and . . .

    wow

(PS - in searching for this thread, I did see the prior post linking the background that the car was a gift from Berger to the Imola marshals in '89)
