hi there, been doing some research.. regarding the 355 F1 system.. theres lots of info regarding upgrading to the 360 pump/motor combo kit, which is conveniently available from Hill Engendering.. however could not find much regarding solutions for when the Actuator fails..? thanks in advance..
I have seen this one. https://m.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-F355-F1-Actuator-Service-Power-unit-diagnostic-by-GTE-Engineering/221517909147?hash=item33937f0c9b:g:kBAAAOSwrhBZDmQR I honestly haven't educated myself on this system like I should but its one option.
No clue who these guys are....but perhaps this? http://dutamasengines.com/products.php?product=Ferrari-factory-355-F1-Complete-Hydraulic-Actuator-pump-OEM These guys may have an angle: http://www.awitalian.com/ Ferr Parts for used? Used here too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-F355-F1-Hydraulic-Actuator-Used-P-N-177687-s-c-167950/302037284244?hash=item4652d33594:g:RlwAAOSwIgNXqgUG&vxp=mtr Sure it is the actuator that is the problem? https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/f1-accumulator-bulb-replacement-procedure.555260/
hi thanks for the inputs.. my inquiry is more for my own knowledge to understand the F1 system better.. since I have a manual car. however would not shy from an F355 F1 if something comes up.. at the same time I have an acquaintance who is selling a 98 spider F1.. and he reports the actuator is done.. was leaking and car would not go into gear he got quote from Ferrari dealer $7500cad just for the actuator. I am unaware if the diagnosis is correct or not.. however from what I do know.. I thought the weak spot was more the pump/motor..? how common is it for the actuator to fail..? now that im aware of the solution for the pump/motor was hoping there were options for the actuator other then buying used/rebuilt etc..
How much he want for the car. Now that the F1 system us FUBAR'd? Just curious. I might be willing to take on a yuuuge project if the price is right.
It's an hydraulic actuator. Most certainly repairable. No fairy dust inside. I'm Trying to get my hands on one to dissect.
its a 1998 Spider, Canadian car yellow/black 27,700kms red calipers challenge grill Tubi Exhaust ( rest stock) Engine out due airbag pulling, potential other stickies currently not driveable as described above minor oil leak from main line below accident report/claim for front bumper do not know status/functionality of the top. he's asking $55,000 CAD.
True. It's just a car...and just an actuator. But the pieces might be unique (although I suspect not). I never opened one up, but didn't some post about a rebuild effort on one a while ago? Seattle if I recall. Maybe that was the solenoid assy. Anyway, I might know where a "disabled" one might be. Let me check next week when I can stop in there.
Previously posted, but they’ve been around a while for rebuilding your actuator. GTE Engineering LLC 561 NE 26th CT Pompano Beach, 33064 FL USA TEL 1 (754) 205 0812 M-F 9am|5pm Hopefully someone will use this service and report back.
GTE Engineering is the go to as far as I know. I'll be dissecting my system this summer. Its not rocket science...but retail side has a heavy Ferrari tax.
ok good.. although ive never heard of them, looks like theres a support base for GTE.. theres no pricing on their site.. but their ebay listing is $3600USD for the rebuild.. I guess that's fair/reasonable..
I think that $28k was if the electrical motor died on the system. Instead of replacing just the electrical motor, Ferrari was selling the entire solenoid assembly as the fix....$28k. + installation and SD work. The actuator repair would be on top of that. Although that would probably be $28k too. Nose hit. Now? We have $500 motor replacement options. $400 accumulator bulb replacements. What we need are some solid rebuild options on the actuator and the solenoid valving on the assy. Getting there....
the way I see it.. this would be a summary of the more likely potential issues encountered with the F1 system. Actuator failure = $3600 rebuild ( GTE Engineering) Electric motor failure = $450 ( Hill Engineering) Electric motor+360 pump combo upgrade = $1100 ( Hill Engineering) Gear Display failure = $145 ( Hill Engineering) accumulator bulb replacement = $425 ( Ricambi) assuming the rest in between is pretty much safe.. as the above is was seems to me what most people talk about..?
The only piece missing from that list are the solenoids on the shifting assembly. As Dave noted, we don't have to do the 360 conversion unless we want to now.
The electric motor? Full 360 conversion using the Hill adapter block from Ricambi. Juri has some alternate motor options as well. Or OEM style, drop in replacement motor from Juri or Dave...at least I think Dave has it now.
No, we do not. I've not developed anything yet and don't know if I ever will. I bought a 430 pump motor and had (long down the priority list) plans to make an adapter plate. What Juri has seems to work OK but I'm not particularly in love with the quality of the manufacturing. I don't know if he makes the motors or purchase them. Honestly, I don't even like to mention his offerings as it's providing him free advertising for someone who I question his business ethics.
I thought you had that 355motor option done. As for Juri, he doesn't participate here as a sponsor so that's fair. In the name of equal time, I have worked with Juri for several years now and have had zero issues and he is quite helpful. I have his "heavy duty" 360 motor installed and it is top notch. So, there is that.....
Thanks. But, if you don't have the 355 OEM motor, Juri is kind of the only option...and so far my experience has been fine.
