FIA has just announced a 10-year ban on engine development in Formula One. Teams will have to submit an engine to FIA by March 31, 2008, which they will then have to use through 2017. Speaking about the decision, FIA President Max Mosley said, "There is no need to develop an F1 engine any further. The engine runs at 19,000 rpm, which is far faster than any comparable engine. It sounds good, it's reliable and amazingly the six partially frozen engines of the current manufacturers are really evenly matched."

We used to be avid F1 fans, attending the Silverstone Grand Prix nearly every year during our childhood. Recently, that passion has disappeared, largely because of incredibly boring races, a dearth of personality within the sport and mind-boggling rule changes. We can't help but feel that this latest policy change has completely removed the sport's last remaining point of appeal: technological development. How did we get to this point?

F1 is killing itself, and has been doing so for a good number of years now. Yetsreday I was going through some early Ferrarissima's: 20 years ago, there were still numbers on the cars, so you could easily see who is who. These days the square centimetres are too expensive for that, sponsors stickers are more important. Bernie E's private billboard parade should make place for a nice calendar of Le Mans series races. Much more enjoyable.

Interesting situation may be that A1 Grand Prix may soon have more powerful engines than F1?

    Happy motoring,

    Jack V.

F1 is not as exciting as it used to be and this is another rediculous idea from Bernie and co. I see more enthusiasm for Vintage racing every year and feel less excitment over F1 each year. In fairness I have not been to a F1 race in person in a few years and just watch via Speedvision these days, but most races have 4 or 5 contenders and qualifying is almost the most important factor. Would anyone else like to see a simpler formula even if it wasn't so fast or exotic. How about 3 ltrs,1600lbs + driver, 10,000 rpm max. and street tires no bigger then say the sizes and types on a 599GTB ?

gday guys you may as well put formula ford motors in the cars as let the teams keeep the engine brand on the cars.
because when you look in dictonary the term a formula means "development " i call it the backwards formula.
