So is it official that teams will be supplying to smaller new teams their chassis? Heard alot about this yesterday during practice and I have to agree that this is the dumbest rule the FIA has come out with. Not fair that a team such as Super Aguri or even now Prodrive can purchases a chassis from Mclaren for the fraction of the cost and be competitive right away.

I don’t like this either, too much political leverage for the teams providing chassis. It also may have a side effect of reducing some of the innovation we’ve seen from smaller teams in the past, something which makes F1 so technically appealing to many fans. I guess they’ll also have to change the constructors’ championship to a team championship as well. Step in the wrong direction imo.

It's all come from Mosley's obsession with lowering costs and Ecclestone's dream of providing a 24-car grid.

There are not 12 F1 manufacturers that can design cars, but there could be 12 teams to run them. The solution is to have 'client teams'. It could reduce the cost of designing/building cars in the long run.

I don't like the idea myself.

Yes good point, but this used to be a common thing back in the 'good years', with previous years cars bought by privateers, etc.
F1 has so many regulations now that we can no longer look to F1 for innovation unfortunately.

Well, his version of "lowering costs", which is some strange tangent from reality.

Honda might be re-thinking the wisdom of "client cars" right about now. ;)

Here's a thought: When a team using your client car takes points (and all the associated dollars) away from you, do you get a commission? Otherwise, why give someone the ability to compete with you?

Client car shouldn't be allowed to pass the constructors car without permission. :)
