It's amazing Sir Frank can plop down 5.5m euros for Rubens. I would love to see Williams back on top some day soon.
I believe some of these numbers to be skewed IE Petrov is known to be a pay-per-drive. So does this mean he brings X millions into the team and is then "paid" a salary ?
Im more suprised that Ferrari can afford to pay so much for Alonso and Massa, and still pay out Kimmi's contract.
more so all the folks paying $30 for a ferrari tshirt/hat/flag that they make in Thailand for 5 cents/item lol
Santander pays for most of Alonso. Kimi's payoff source is still a little uncertain. Only Massa's salary come from normal sponsors.
$30.00 I wish! $90 for a polo shirt and $50 for a woman's tank, and any time anyone balks I say "paying for F1"
And from his demonstration of taking it to the multiple world champion Schumy a few weeks ago, he still is earning his money! Go RB!!!
Im guessing his salary is paid out of the sponsorship that is brought to the team as does happen and not just in F1. The team and the driver split the sponsorship with the driver getting a portion which is their salary.
Let's see, Massa has 97 points and costs 14m, so that's about 144,000 EURO per point. Alonso has 141 points and costs 30m, which makes about 212,000 EURO per point. So who looses it?
The article only lists the salaries, which is not all the money the drivers take in: Schumacher's rather low 8 mio (I thought it was 7 based on reports from last December) is not showing the whole picture: He gets most of his money from sponsorship deals and is making about 20-30 millions this year. Also confirms the point, that Mercedes has to be very frugal with their driver salaries as their hands are tied by the Unions and shareholders.
From:http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-fernando-alonso-the-highest-earner-in-formula-one/ "Fernando Alonso is by far the highest paid active Grand Prix driver, according to reports in the Spanish press. The El Mundo report, citing information from Business Book GP, compiled a list showing that Alonso's annual Ferrari retainer - excluding external endorsements - is EUR 30 million. That is almost double the next largest retainer, owned by 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, at 16 million, although it is believed Kimi Raikkonen is being paid a similar amount this year due to Ferrari's breach of contract." Mmmm.... that's a strange way of wording what happened!. To me it implies that it was some sort of fine that Ferrari were forced to pay whereas in reality, it was a sum of money mutually agreed upon by both parties in order to terminate the contract a year early. Not really a breach of contract as such, the contract was renegotiated and a compensation package was worked out amicably.
