Codemasters has the exclusive F1 licence so no other game can be used. It's not a pure arcade game, it's more a simcade.
I think that if they used a real simulator it would be of some use. Something that allowed a transition to real cars at some point. It would be like a "very poor man's" entry formula.
Even ignoring the whole transition to real racing thing...it would be about skill and perceived car control to a fairly realistic degree. F1 2017 is none of those things. It's a game made for kids and casual gamers.
Alonso is getting involved in it also..so who knows where it might go. At least as good as Formula Eeeeew i think. But please not the excitable Italian commentator!
Realistic simulators don't sell as well as simcades. Forza, GT and this game sell by the millions. iracing might be lucky if it has 10,000 players. http://iracer.info/
I can imagine that Liberty would be extremely pleased if they can have an F1 race even half as interesting as this Final. I was very sceptical ,but having watched it i actually found it pretty entertaining,and the icing on the cake was the eventual winner Brandon ,a slightly chubby young lad who works full time as a chef,beating all the others who kind of looked like typical racing driver types.He even did the hand in the air stuff when the young kid from Chile (now studying in Geneva...) got the penalty for gaining track position.
