OK, I know the engines must last two weekends now. That includes practice, qualifying and the races. My question is, where are the engines kept? Do the teams take them with them or are they in a parc ferme type of arrangement?

Also, the teams are testing hot and heavy right now. Are the engines they use for testing the same specs as the race engines? If so, how many of these marvelous creations does each team keep on hand for testing, racing, and development work? I would assume such would be a luxury for Jordan and maybe Sauber (since I heard Minardi don't test I didn't consider them), but Honda, BMW, Renault, Ferrari, and Mercedes should be able to provide what ever is needed for the job. Is this the case?

thanks all....and I will see all in Indy!!!

I don't know the answers to all your questions, but I read on this forum that the engines are given a label or sticker that keeps track of it. I don't know if they're forced to remove the engines, but I think that would be a little extreme.

The teams test engines and even as extreme as race simulation. They basically have an engine on the dyno and give it the same conditions at a certain track based on throttle. They also test engines that are being further developed for more power, which isn't "race spec" as in the near future.

I don't remember the source, but I heard BMW provides Williams with 100 engines a season.
