I have been SUPER lucky - that I wrangle passes from our vendors... while a lot of our guys go golfing - Masters etc.. or football - SuperBowl or world series etc... I'm the racing guy, so when racing tickets come up ... they flow to me usually. Our CFO likes F-1 and our CIO is an F-1 geek, so I have some competition but usually they are too busy... so I capitalize on them. the nice thing for our sponsor is - they don't have to come along. I tell them : I'm good all on my own, don't need a sales pitch, and don't want to bore them, as I'll be all about the race.

I agree most of the folks in the Paddock club don't know anything about racing or cars... at Mercedes, there are about 50% of the folks who are customers and some get the racing part.. .most are just there for the :"fun" ... and a lot of the folks are sponsor CEO's or c suite folks... the egos are interesting to watch.

couple of years ago at Lotus, a guy was making a big stink about not being able to walk the grid, and he asked why he could not and the girl says only Bernie makes those decisions, He says "who's Bernie? .... can you call him!" I told him, if you get Bernie on the phone I;ll get you down there..... never happend.
