fyi bridgestone issued a statement saying that ferrari's poor showing was their bad, and that they are working on improving tires for next race. i think they got compounds all wrong for the heat, they will be better next time but ferrari really needs to step up pace and get the 05 car on the track. then again maybe m.s. decided to spot the field a couple of races just to make it interesting.

Yup, the rule change regarding tires (tyres for you Brits) has evidently thrown Bridgestone for a loop. But also evident is that Toyota, Williams and Mclaren have all found more power over the winter, while Ferrari is still running the F2004 car.

So what do you do? You bring out your new hardware early...Here's a clipping from an F1 news source:

Ferrari confirms: F2005 to debut in Bahrain.

Two wins for Renault, and only two points for Michael Schumacher, from the
opening two races of the 2005 Formula One season has been enough to force
Ferrari into giving the new F2005 an earlier than expected race debut.

The team was due to introduce the new car into competitive action in the
Spanish Grand Prix in May, but after a disappointing start to the season
with the modified F2004M, and an encouraging test of the F2005 at Mugello,
Ferrari has now confirmed that it will introduce its new car in the Bahrain
    Grand Prix next weekend.

"In the next race we will use the new machine," team boss Jean Todt told
Ansa.it. "The tests at Mugello, where both drivers [Schumacher and Rubens
Barrichello] were able to drive the F2005, has shown its potential. We will
have two F2005, one for each driver, and will have an F2004M to use as a
    spare car [in Bahrain].

"The performance in the first two races has acted as a stimulus for us.
Along with Bridgestone we have decided to accelerate the development program
and believe that with various new elements, in both machine and tyre, we can
return to the front after two races on the defensive."

Although Barrichello secured a podium in the season opener in Australia,
Ferrari has struggled for pace in the first two races of the season, and is
currently only fourth in the constructors championship, behind both Toyota
and Red Bull, while world champion Michael Schumacher is already 14 points
behind early championship leader Fernando Alonso.
