1999 Modena 37K mi. No leaks from anywhere on tranny EXCEPT gear selector position sensor and MAYBE gear engagement position sensor. WSM Vol II D6.07 parts 2 & 3 in diagram. Note: no sealing o-ring or anything for these units. Having said that, I did see some remnant of blue silicone on the housing where the engagement sensor goes; none on the selection sensor. Both parts had been out before as noted by the nearly impossible to get out stripped Torx screws (had to cut a slot in one for flat screwdriver)

So, the question is sealant yes or no and is the trans oil in this area that is inside the casting just residual pass through from the rods that collects over the years (13 in this case) or is it actively lubed which I don't see? I believe the rods just pass some of this oil through the casting into the sensor caps as a result of a less than perfect seal into the sensor caps which themselves don't even seem designed to seal.

As far as the "gel" mentioned in an earlier thread it is just grease to keep the rod/sensor interface lubed.

    Thanks,

OK, I sealed all the possible leak areas on the sensors and of course it has to be SD3'd at Dealer here in Scottsdale. I gave them 1 hour to do the relearn, PIS reset (my car is a "99) and go over entire engine bay for security after I removed/reinstalled and rebuilt my F1 tranny, and run scan tool over entire car meaning all systems. I'll report after the job is done.
The tranny did do N-2-3-R while flashing at me. I suppose that is a good sign.

I like to limit these guys b/c if they need more than 1 hour they have to call me and explain. The relearn takes literally 1 minute. Finding the SD3 is longest parrt of the whole process!

I do not believe in the "open checkbook" policy. I already had a boat!
