My 2005 F430 with 33,000 miles failed to manually upshift with the gearbox warning briefly going on but not flashing. The car would downshift and operate in auto mode ok What is the life expectancy of the gearbox and is a rebuild or replacement suggested?

hi, questions like yours is ubiquitous in the forum. Get a factory diagnostic computer (called SD3 or SDx) or aftermarket diagnistic such as Leonardo to see the errors in the TCU(ECU) first.

I have a Kiwi which did not find any permanent or pending codes. This device also measures performance. I will look into the other systems you mentioned

not sure what kiwi is but the diagnostic tool should be able to see the Transmission control unit, not ignition ecu.
you'll see something like CFC203.11 something like that

I suspect you are looking or thinking in completely the wrong direction - any issue is least likely to be in the box - it could be a multitude of external things from low fluid to worn clutch - on the 360 the light can even be caused by a worn reverse lever

It could even be a just-because-it-can type of temporary electrical hiccup

engine code indicating slow warm up showed up on drive to cars & coffee at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sat am.
PO128 indicating below temp thermostat Ambient temp was 32 that am.Sounding more like electrical hiccups. Was able to clear the code with my kiwi OBD and so far no further OBD codes or operational problems./

it will show up again. clearing obd code is like treating a fever-inducing disease with ice bag on forehead.

clear codes only when you cured the underlying disease.

System should be serviced every three years with a fluid change, bleed, leak check, and self test run using an SD2 or Leonardo. Schedule is from a 599, when Ferrari finally figured out you need to do regular maintenance on the F1 system.

I have a 2006 F430 Spider with 32K miles. I recently had my F1 System serviced by an independent mechanic with a Leonardo.

System was flushed, bled and recalibrated. Not bad, total cost was ~$600.00 total.

I messed up and should have asked them to replace the hydraulic accumulator as well as I understand its a good idea to replace the accumulator preventively especially my car is now almost 12 years old.

I plan to have my F1 System serviced again in the next year or two and next time I will have them change the accumulator.

So far no further problems with the gearbox or warm up time. Thanks for the info on routine service and plan to do this at next interval with the accumulator change also

i don't understand the preventive accumulator change. Its not like if it fails, it would affect other components's life. If its not broken , don't fix it. right?

For F430, should have said SD3 instead of SD2.

I believe the concern is if the accumulator is failing, it can cause the pump to run excessively. This can cause you to end up replacing both components. In fact I think I read someone replaced two pumps before they figured out it was the accumulator that was at fault.

i see, that's indeed a concern. I usually check my motor running interval every few months, but i believe most people aren't as paranoid as i am

It’s easy to check with the sd3. They can see a very small pressure loss in some cases. The f1 light came on in my car and they replaced the f1 sensors under warranty along with the acculumator. To the op, the f1 light could be a hit or miss. In my case the sensors were just wearing out but I replaced them so good to go for a long time now. The light will usually go away. At first, mine went on and by the time the car warmed out and I sent it to the dealer the light was off. But if you don’t look into it, it will probably come back. I’m to ocd if something is broke or off, got to address it.
