at the time given the amount of laps left and tyre deg, Ocon could have taken the fight to Ricci who was on older tyres and possibly gotten a podium finish.
Because the Ferraris were catching them fast and Perez was showing no sign of attempting to pass Ricci for many many laps, they thought Ocon could have a better chance to get the podium. See above you beat me to it^^
Vijay Mallya to issue new team guidelines at Force India after Canada With hindsight, Szafnauer said Force India would have swapped its drivers earlier. "If we re-run the race now, hindsight is a wonderful thing and we have more information. What I would have done is perhaps swap them earlier when the Ferraris were pitting because then it's easy, you can have a go and still get your tyres back up to temperature and there's no risk from behind if it doesn't happen and you still have time to swap back. But we didn't do that and we started discussing it a bit late and after that it was too late."
Ok.so they issue some new guide lines, does anyone think Perez would move over next time? No way Jose. Ocon will have to pay him back for that one eventually. Perez to Ferrari? Must be joking.
Perez is a nice journeyman driver. He is also there with Kimi in terms of consistency. He's not the spark Ocon is. I get a sense of entitlement from Perez due to resource access from his sponsor. I would not keep Perez over Ocon at all.
Was it last year that Dan was given a shot at the guy in front of Max and Dan ? Dan had his go, it didn't come off and he gave the place back to his team mate ...... that's how the FI drivers SHOULD have handled it
+1 I think Perez might have shot himself in the foot here, refusing to obey team orders and then fight his teammate very hard for the position finally. Big teams take notice of such actions (Merc not bumping Wehrlein up to Force India had partially to do with his refusal to switch of the engine when in gravel trap last year US practice IMO).
Ocon is just waiting for the big chance at Mercedes ,so he is not about to do anything too stupid in the meantime, like crash into Perez etc.
Ocon appears to be a smarter and faster driver than Perez overall. Id have an easy time taking Ocon over Perez. A very easy decision.
Otmar, he is your better driver. Perez has already peaked. Makes a nice journeyman at best to me. Ocon has that extra instinct Perez lacks. You could see it as Perez trailed Ricci lap after lap after lap. No creativity to offering a strike to pass. Zero.
Because he drives for the TEAM, not himself. Besides, Ocon offered to yield back his position to Perez if unable to pass Ricci. Only an ***** would ignore that.
Cyril Abiteboul challenges Jolyon Palmer to improve one-lap pace Renault Managing Director Cyril Abiteboul has challenged Jolyon Palmer to improve his one-lap pace, in order to contribute to the manufacturer’s points tally in 2017. Palmer has been out-qualified at each event by team-mate Nico Hülkenberg, with the Briton also eliminated in Q1 on five occasions. Palmer started from 15th in Canada, five places behind Hülkenberg, and raced to 11th spot, three positions down on Hülkenberg, who has amassed all of Renault’s 18 points this season. Abiteboul believes that Palmer needs to focus on his one-lap performance in order to stand a stronger chance of adding to Renault’s tally. “Jo had a similar strategy [to Hülkenberg] and he now has two P11 finishes in a row,” Abiteboul said of Palmer’s race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. “The priority moving forward is for him to qualify higher in order to get a shot at winning some points and contribute to the team’s effort to gain ground in the Constructors’ Championship. “[The] race allowed us to reduce the deficit between us and Williams, as we are aiming for sixth in the Constructors’ Championship before the mid-season break.” Palmer rued his fortune after finishing just a second behind Romain Grosjean in the battle for the final points-paying position. “This is very frustrating,” Palmer said of his Montréal race. “I lost a lot at the start with the mayhem, I lost positions then got stuck behind Grosjean for about 60 laps and couldn’t get close enough to attack him. “I think the pace was a bit better and if I could have started a couple of places higher, we could have gotten into the points.” https://www.motorsportweek.com/news/id/14973 I think most of us know what's next for Palmer....
JUNE 14, 2017 Palmer has no explanation amid rumours Jolyon Palmer says he has "no explanation" for his struggle to keep up with his teammate Nico Hulkenberg at Renault so far in 2017. Team boss Cyril Abiteboul recently gave the Briton a hurry-up, amid rumours a mid-season driver change - potentially involving tester Sergey Sirotkin or even Robert Kubica - might be on the cards. Palmer, who is yet to score a single point this year, said the rumours are not putting pressure on him. "What puts pressure on is not putting in good performances," said Palmer. "The way to stop the rumours is to do well on track and hopefully I can do that." As for what has caused his 2017 struggle, however, Palmer said he isn't sure. "I have no explanation," the 26-year-old is quoted by Speed Week. "I don't think I've done anything wrong. There are just small things that make the difference," Palmer added. "I just have to drive as well as I can -- what happens on the other side of the garage doesn't matter." This week, 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve lashed out at his Canadian countryman Lance Stroll, suggesting the 18-year-old doesn't belong in F1. He said F1 is now so safe that the grid is filled with pay-drivers. "In the past, we were dealing with guys who were so passionate they were willing to risk their lives," Villeneuve told Die Welt newspaper. "Now, fathers actually want their sons to race, even if they don't have the talent -- a formula one cockpit is safer than a motorbike or skiing," he said. Palmer's father is British motor racing circuit mogul Jonathan Palmer, while Stroll's F1 career is funded by his billionaire father Lawrence Stroll.
I can explain it to you Palmer...you're probably a better driver then 99.9% of the world population....but you're not good enough to be driving an f.1.
Well said. Nice enough guy it seems but appears to be out of his league in F1. I'm concerned that putting pressure on him won't help the repair bill though.

Max was already way past Vettel. Vettel made the choice the stick on the inside, leaving a lot of space on the outside. As Max rightfully said, Vettel should've braked.... To be fair; Alesi was a decent driver, but he isn't even in the same galaxy as Max.
He was only past enough when he himself failed to brake and went over vettels wing, it's not vettels job to help him complete overtakes and back off, he has his own race to run. Luckily karma paid him back, and Horner needs to impress upon him the importance of finishing races
+1 he has a tendency as a young aggressive driver to try to win in turn 1. Im surprised he is already doubting 2018 season now in the press. Head down, tight lips and drive Max. You have a good future so dont worry so much about things for next year man!
Could Max become the next Alonso? An unbelievably gifted driver that doesn't win as much as he should because of his arrogance?
