So my new to me 2005 f430 is having shifting issues After driving around for a bit it starts missing shifts. Taking off from a light at anything but grandma speed going from 1-2 it will pop into neutral and still indicate 1st gear. The amber slow down light will come on. After a about 10 seconds to 30 seconds after a few attempts to shift up it will wind up in third ( I think it's sensing speed and picking a gear). I can then downshift to 2nd and continue. Occasionally the red F1 gearbox failure light on the right may flash on for a second then go off. When I open the door the pump runs for about 3 seconds. With the key on engine off shifting from first to neutral and back the pump runs about every 3rd shift. Some thoughts: 1. Can the battery be going bad? Yesterday I took the car off the trickle charger which show a full charge. Drove for a half hour, parked for 4 hours, drove for a half hour home and put the car back on the charger which indicated a charge less than 80 percent. After the drive shouldn't it have been on full? 2. I haven't checked the f1 fluid. A few questions, If it was low isn't there a warning light? The car is supposed to be warm. Fully warmed up like driving 10 miles? Then park. prime the pump by opening the door, then stick my finger in the reservoir and it should cover my fingernail. If it's low what do I fill it with? 3. Based on my searches at this point next would be to flush the f1 system and check for leaks, but I think it needs to be done by a shop with a sd3? Not something I can do by myself? So far no fluids on the floor. Whats the ballpark cost on this? 4, If that fails, have a shop check the solenoid and actuator? Am I missing anything?
If the pump is running 3 seconds when opening the door then it looks to be ok- it is pumping the pressure up in a short time and cutting out. If you had air in the system i would think it would take longer- you can get air in system if you let the tank get too low- should be about 18 to 22 mm with door open and system charged- use a carpenters flexible tape to dip the tank. A lot easier than a screwdriver. In ref to your battery- connect a multi meter up to the 12 volt power socket in the centre consol and press the starter- i like to see 10.8 volts or above when starter goes in. Anything less and battery could be better. No alarm on f1 tank level- f1 oil spec in hand book What was the clutch wear % at last service ? A fluid flush is not the first item on the repair list, if it is clean it should be fine, besides which you are getting enough pressure for the pump to cut out. Might be an idea to get it to a dealer to put on the sd3 to see what the clutch is doing- is the engine check light coming on and if so any codes coming up, buy a cheap obd reader to find out what codes coming up if any.
I'm having an less complex, yet similar issue... P1741 error points to potentiometer. I was told there are three of them? Have a reputable mechanic test them for proper voltage. My mechanic is currently researching how to do that... there are no really good mechanics in the Pittsburgh area when it comes to Ferraris.
Probably best to check the fluid level first as it is easy to do and should be the first step. Looks like you need to take it in to a shop to properly diagnose it. Enzo's is close to you, ask for Jason https://enzosautomotive.com/ (770)-956-0207
