Sorry, but your point? For reasons unknown really, I still scan that section pretty regularly. There's *always* ads looking for people in (pretty much) all the teams. I know I'm way out of date, but I still think that outside of the high profile, high paying gigs for the exclusive few, the rest remain under paid and do it for "the love of the sport". (Plus, it's a hell of a lot of fun on occasion ) But, look down the pitlane; most are "youngsters" and want to be there. Get a family & a mortgage etc and the crazy hours, in many cases crazy travel schedules and so on and it looses it's appeal when you can go elsewhere at 40 hours a week for the same, or better money! At least, that's what happened to me. 30 odd years back! Cheers, Ian

Fair enough. Reading my post again, I didn't mean to "jump down your throat" there..... Apologies. As both you & Ferris noted, you, and for sure many others, would basically do it for minimum wage - that was my point really. Seems these days a good knowledge of Catia, for example, will get you in the door. Or Florians experience with modern ECU's and test beds etc.... He could certainly get in, but at what "cost"? If you're "young, free & single", go for it - As I said, at times it was a lot of fun. But OTOH, believe me, one set of garages, pit road and track gets to look much like any other....... Cheers, Ian

Sure! Keep an eye on the Autosport's jobs section and they come by. IIRC, there's also a "dedicated" motorsport job site out there somewhere. I'm sure someone knows it (?) If you're serious, it's obviously also worth looking beyond F1 - The GP2, WEC etc guys need pretty much the same skill sets and won't be as inundated with resumes. The F1 guys always like "previous motorsport experience" too - Not a showstopper if you're "good" of course, but there's plenty of other ways to "get in the door". Remember though (IMO, could be wrong these days ) that the pay is likely to be **** relative to the rest of your industry and you're not going to be in a uniform flying round the globe. At least to start with you'll be a cube dweller just like most of us! If you want to do it, you've pretty much got to be in the UK. But it's a pretty big, small industry, if you get my drift..... And, as I said, staff turnover is huge as folk tend to get burnt out fast. Good luck! Cheers, Ian

11 years ago, I quit my Oil and Gas job here in Calgary and moved to Northern Cali for a race team job. Took a 50% pay cut to live somewhere at that time whereit was twice as much. We did the ALMS and 24h Lemans, and I got to work around great cars, and people/drivers I have followed in TV and mags, and liked it. A lot of work though, especially for 24h races. 2 guys on my team were from F1, one was ex BAR honda, the other was Renault. From what they told me, it was the cats meow.................one of them went around the world 8 times. Hard to have a good family life though.............I wanted to slow down and have a family so that is why I left.
Yep. Pretty much sums it up! Outside the "big names", I think it pretty much remains a 'labor of love'. Which is fine, but also the reason it's not as hard to get in as many believe. Cheers, Ian

Tell me about it I am working and studying. Doing my Masters part time basis while working in marketing and business development in the relocations industry. I had my marketing experience at Porsche last year, but i had a falling out with the CEO and manager, and i left. F1 is still very much my passion, and I enjoy what i do very much. But who knows next year, or 2016..
