F1 leader Hamilton facing engine headache

I have no proof, but I look for Hamilton to leave some oil on the track, and a little smoke in the air myself... We'll see on race day... BTW, Heikki has blown an engine, con rods and their con rods are made at Pankl just as Ferrari's are. I know that for sure, I also was told that McLaren are worried about Hami's engine, built from the same batch of rods... Again, this is third party.

I read it rather differently. I don't think the last race is any different from earlier races in that if the 'joker' engine has already been used a penalty will be incurred if an engine swap is needed in the last race. I think it is saying the 'joker' engine can't be used during the last event even if it hasn't been used before then. The definition of 'during' is going to be important, for example can it be swapped without penalty before the weekend starts, swapped without penalty after practice but before qualifying, etc?

 

What if Hamilton has "engine trouble" wink wink in the first practice. Could he then use the joker engine without getting a penalty?

 

The engine and trany rules only apply to Sat and Sunday. They can use whatever they want on Friday.

 

Given the scrutiny(fairly or unfairly) Mclaren has recieved this year from the FIA and Stewards, I dont think they will go down the road of swapping the engine. Its not worth the risk. They have a reliable car and LH has a decent lead to play with. I bet they keep the same powerplant and just race. I would think to finish 5th he doesnt need to run the engine at the limit too much to keep pace. If it rains for sure the motor will not be too stressed. Speaking of weather....

I have been a member on Ferrari related websites where either everybody was singing kumbaya all day long or where the mods killed off any opposing views. Guess what, those web sites had barely any visitors after a while.

Thats nice of you Andreas but there are so many things going on in F1 that it makes me sick. They must think that we are all idiots. Take last week for just one miniscule instance. Alonso and HK put the pedal to the metal in one of the longest straits in F1. Alonso did not draft HK he pulls along side HK and they are both going all out but the Renault wins out in a long long drag race. I dont give a crap that it was Alonso driving the renault. What gets me is that we are in a stupid engine freeze and the renault was way off the pace just 7 races ago. Alonso's renault made the Mac look like it had 30 less horses. There is no way the renaullt has made that much of a difference in the chassis and even if they did it wouldn't show that much on the straight. There is more going on than they are letting us know and its BS. It is so obvious that this is not all out racing anymore. Its just a show similar to the WWF. When I say WWF, im not joking. The whole F1 thing is joke. Even if Lewis blew up next week and Massa won the WDC....it would mean nothing to me.....absolutely nothing. what has to happen is for those two idiots running this thing to die soon. A firey car crash would suit me just fine. Sounds gross and a little extreme but they are or have destroyed something I used to love so much. My Sundays will never be the same.

Engine changes
As in 2007, drivers must use the same engine for two consecutive events, an event comprising final practice, qualifying and the race. If that engine fails in final practice or qualifying and has to be changed ahead of the race, the driver will be given a grid penalty - 10 places if the change was made before qualifying, or the back of the grid if it was made following qualifying.

However, in an amendment for 2008, each driver is allowed one ‘free’ change per season, unless that change takes place at the final round. In other words, he will not incur a penalty for his first engine failure of the year, as long it is not at the last event.
