After poor Ricardo patrese crashed when he had the win in his hands...and the italian publuc went wild cheering on his crash...Ferrari tops italians i guess!

 

It helped that there were only 14 starters, both Lotuses crashed when their rear wings failed (resulting in the subsequent ban on tall wings) and Amon's engine blew when he had a comfortable lead on Stewart. That was the third time in 1968-69 that Amon lost a large lead when his Ferrari failed him. His season fell apart after that and he left the team before the end of the year. Ferrari finished dead last in the championship (tied with the equally decrepit BRM), probably the only time that ever happened.

 

Just before the 312 B was race ready, bad timing for Chris.

Pironi won with such a gap with the rest of the field that today's viewers would have considered that race boring and a snoozefest.
That's the kind of criticism F1 receives constantly these days.

 

I nodded-off three times in the race yesterday.

A real pity that the BT 44 had this strange "slump" after the first three races of the 1974 season, when it clearly was the best & fastest car, until the Germazn G.P at the 'Ring, when it started to work properly again. Otherwise, Reutemann could/would have been a title contender that year.
1974 remains one of my "all time favorite" season.

Agree, 1974 was a great season. Note virtually no sponsorship on Brabham team and there were still F1 privateers. I saw Carlos win at Watkins Glen that season, on his day he was in a class by himself.

 

He really was an artist; he had his days off here and there, from time to time; but on a good day, he was "somewhere else". Some of his laps in his last full season when 39 years old where simply unbelievable.
He came back in Buenos Aires in 1995 (I think it was), out of retirement, at 53, to try his hand at the new Ferrari, invited by Jean Todt; hadn't driven a F1 for 13 years, never had managed an automatic gearbox, etc...his lap, fresh out of retirement, between the two quali sessions, on a damp track, would have put him 11th on the Grand Prix grid...
