In 1972 the March F1 cars were so horrible that they replaced them with F2 cars ballasted to meet the F1 regulations and fitted with Cosworth DFVs. They weren't winners but at least they were respectable. And that chassis became the basis for all future March F1 cars thru 1977. One of the drivers of those modified F2 cars was a young fellow named Niki Lauda.....

Hamilton couldn't be taking more potshots than this movie.

Older F1 driver comes out of retirement to partner with a rookie, who also happens to be black.

And who could forget FA's GP2 comment!

The only thing is, Brad Pitt looks nothing like Alonso.

F2s used to be regularly entered at the German GPs on the Nordschleife to boost the field, and some of them put many F1 to shame.
I remember one year when Ken Tyrrell entered Jacky Ickx on a Matra F2; he qualified 5th, and was mid-pack during the race until the suspension broke on one of the famous Nurburg "bumps".

The first Matra entered in F1 by Ken Tyrrell was also a F2 chassis with a DFV engine and extra tanks.
It happened at the South African GP, and Jackie Stewart qualified on the front row, alongside Clark.

The 721X was a disaster, and the F2-based 721G replaced it for the latter part of the season. The following year's 731 (modified from the 721G) was still imperfect, so the Hesketh team made their own modified version.

It means spitting in the eye of the core audience. A popular Corporate pursuit as of late, even when they are brutally rejected for it......

I won't watch anything with LuLu speaking in it, and that includes current F1 interviews. I no longer listen to him/her.

looks like one of the “sponsors” is Shark…the vacuum cleaner manufacturer? If so, maybe as a promotional tie-in they’ll offer special APXGP Formula 1 vacuums

What is your problem? I don't understand why you would feel so threatened by some children? I believe the word people use for people like you is Snowflake.

Hello Mr Felter. I'm Anthony. Just a regular middle aged guy who can look at a picture of people without getting upset if any of them don't look exactly like me. Our towns and cities are full of people who look and are different. I don't mind if the films and tv shows I see reflect that. I mean I just don't think it's the kind of thing that most people notice or feel the need to comment on.

Actually, I apologise. We don't know each other and would probably get on well over a beer discussing F1. The internet can exaggerate things and you can't see the nuance in a written word. I shouldn't have called you a snowflake. It's not a word I'm sure I even understand. I just know it's used by the same kind of people who use 'woke' as an insult, and nobody wants to be one of those kind of people.

I think this could be a cool movie. The people working on it seem to think the budget and facilities are good, so that should help. The pretend F1 team was using an old FIA motorhome and has six mocked-up F1 cars, built by Carlin, with two powered with electric motors (for pit stop filming), two with F2 engines and two with F3 engines. Should be a fun project!

My friend is at Silverstone again today. He's sent me a couple of videos from the pitlane. He's made me promise not to share them or he could lose his job. One shows an Aston going through the pitlane. The other is of the APX team doing a pitstop using one of the electric cars. I guess they'll put the sound on afterwards. He also said a car was sent to the studio yesterday to be blown up. I'm not sure what would make an F1 car explode, but I'm sure it's important for the plot!

Part of me is happy that F-1 has found a larger presence in the USA and popular opinion... but the other half feels a sense of loss that what I loved about "my" sport is gone. I miss the clubby feeling... that this was for those in the knw, vs. WWE of the autoracing world. As for movies go, while its very old, there is still no other better movie than Grand Prix. The race cars dont stand up to close scrutiny any more, but it gave the essence of F-1 racing to its core for the time... and has so many historic racing scenes never to be repeated again... old spa, Monza Banking, the old Ferrari factory, Old Monaco... hay bales and all... the Prince's museum... Clermont Ferrand... you name it, it has it.

I dont have any real hope that this new movie will be a modern Grand Prix... but one can hope.... in vain.

I hope it goes flat out bust. It’s obvious that this movie will include modern elements of twisted ideology. Especially since crap stain is involved. I feel sorry for Pitt. Or maybe he’s one of them.

I have the same feelings as you, but try hard not to be a 'gate keeper'. My daughter-in-law loves F1, but the first race she ever watched was Abu Dhabi 2021! My son has a better knowledge, but he's had no choice as he grew up with me! They are both going to the Japanese Grand Prix this year and I can't begrudge them it. I suppose it's a bit like seeing people wearing band t-shirts and they can only name 1 song!
The Grand Prix film cannot be bettered as it is an amazing historical document.
I expect this movie to be some disposable fun, much like the other movies made by the director Joseph Kosinski.
