If the Trailer reflects the film it, promises to be a disaster. It makes "Rush" look good...and the acting in "Rush" was good. But the writing and directing were pedestrian. Even "Grand Prix" doesn't hold up. There is no need to make a movie about auto racing, using all sorts of CGI, because cameras used in actual racing these days gives you the real deal...without phony plots and twists and movie stars. Of movies about racing, I feel McQueen's "Le Mans" was the best...because if focused on racing...with zero melodrama. But again...modern technology give us the real thing...including the way they use the "ghost cars" to show driver vs driver laps and lines. Michael Mann knew what he was doing in "Ferrari" by keeping the cars in the background except for the one race it was important to focus on.

Did anyone else notice that one or two of the cast were in the media pen at Silverstone when the drivers were having their post race interviews.

Of course full immersion is this movie 's M.O. and they have certainly secured full cooperation from the real F1 world with an extra pit, participation in the driver's parade, tack sessions during GP weekends etc etc etc....BUT I use the word movie which I normally never do as I expect this to be a product for the Drive to survive kids public. Visual popcorn. The trailer is a disaster.

I am not expecting a quality film...

Saw it last night, disappointing. In the opening scene at Daytona, I thought I was watching NASCAR. The major crash scene with the fire was just flakey. But some of it was really good at depicting the incredible spectacle F1 is and the extreme quickness and speeds on track. I thought a couple of the team bosses actually were good actors, would have been neat to see more scenes involving speaking scenes with the F1 stars.

Finally saw it. Not bad, but his demolition derby actions wouldn't have been tolerated by the stewards for more than one race, if that.
    SPOILER ALERT!

Question, this season, when Lance Stroll missed a race, I recall AM couldn't use their reserve driver because he hadn't practiced/qualified for that race
So when Brad came back after his accident, near the end, he was allowed to start anyway from the pit lane. Because he was a team driver?

One is reality(Stroll) the other is a movie. Doctors(F1) have to clear you before you get into the car whether it's for free practice, qualifying or race.

The movie simply proves that formula (1) crap can be sold to ignorant masses who have no idea about what the movie is pretending it is about. This is not about those of you here who follow F1, and who for some perverse reason actually like what is the junk food version of racing movies. Not even worthy of being called a "Big Mac."

I think the same could be said for "Top Gun" or "Days of Thunder." Fighter jet aviators and those who follow and NASCAR drivers and those who follow could say the same thing. Get a good actor and "sell" the story with some action and some love affair, and the movies I just mentioned is a box office hit....to the majority-->"who really cares about the details."

It seems some have still not understood that this is entertainment for the general public, not a documentary for the pisse froid nitpicky crowd who completely miss the point and probably don't see many films and read zero fiction books.

CF the other thread about the film which runs circles around this one.

I enjoyed it a lot for the racing scenes filmed like never before and excellent acting, never mind the Hollywood script, and might just go watch it a third time.

Have to disagree...feel compelled...driven to disagree. What acting? Brad Pitt smiling wryly isn't acting, the black guy imitating Hamilton isn't acting. Filmed like never before? The camera work and editing was a reboot of Days of Thunder but with slightly better video resolution. Measuring all films is about pisse froid nitpicking. Crap for the masses is still crap...and just because a lot of people like eating it, doesn't make it a 16 oz Prime, organic grass fed rib eye. I see a lot of films on a lot of subjects. When you have a really good story and actors and a director, you don't need cheap bling. Yes, even with its hoke, Grand Prix was better than F1...so was Rush and LeMans and Ferrari and Ferrari vs Ford and the The Racers and even Mickey Rooney in The Big Wheel. F1 isn't just bad as a movie about F1...it is a bad movie plain and simple...it is to auto racing what the new woke Snow White is to the Disney orginal.

Two more weeks to go and then we are back to slow motion racing. This will be the time to train pit crew alternatives, let the interns set up the cars, and let the relief drivers do the actual driving events. Also a good time to open the hospitality suites to the public so they can rub shoulders with lifesized manaquins dressed in the drivers suits, and meet the junior members of the pr department. And if they can keep the cars slow enough, they can save a fortune in not shipping spare parts to the races.
