Plans are advancing to stage an F1 night race in the near future. I was wondering what the attraction of such an event is?

...please dont forget night action has its charm...disk brakes glowing, sparks from underneath the chassis, flames from exhausts under deccel...smoke is more visible...BTC even used to put little cooper caps under the lowest parts of the chassis on night races to make sparks when cars bumped around the kerbs...

it´ll be a nice different addition to the championship...Monaco is just a showcase...a parade of very fast F1 cars...at least this night race will have part race-part show...

Singapore GP next year will the first ever night race for F1.

    Very cool, I can't wait.

Malaysian GP has been earmarked for a night race as well. Same reason: better TV times for the mostly Euro audience. No decision yet when they will switch to night. Not in 2008 yet.

...cant wait either...besides, it places a new environment just like rain races...we dont know how a driver will react to this absolutelly new condition...teams screwing up?...flames all over the pit lanes?...crashing on pit lane?

...now a night rain race will be...I CANT WAIT!

The looks of it will be awesome. As will be a failure of the power grid. Will Bernie have a finger on the OFF switch for added drama? :)

The big attraction is that now F1 can look as exciting as the movie Driven

Bernie got the idea from NASCAR.

He should get a few more ideas from NASCAR. I don't like the series, but I do appreciate the extra efforts they make for the audience and the fans.

Remote controlled TV cameras anybody? Donuts passed the finish line? Real victory celebrations, not this choreographed 30 seconds Carmen intermezzo.

I want to see Kimi doing a backflip off the Ferrari after the race. And Alonso climb the catch fence. :)

F1 has become too complacent and it shows: Sponsorship is on an all time low. Scary low this year actually as sponsors place their money elsewhere (point in case: Castrol (!) prefers sponsoring soccer over F1 now). Bernie and Co. need to think of new ways to make the show more attractive again. Mad Max and his spec series and hybrid ideas isn't helping either.

...maybe he will shut all lights down just before Hamilton enters pit lane...then when lights go on again?...his car is upside down and crashed behind the mercedes pace car!!!...

...well, that is if he´s leading the championship way too far ahead for mid season ratings...

or maybe when lights flik...Hamilton is leading the pack after we was just 7th...a crane was all we could hear...

    You're catching on.

Not even that new: In the Monaco rain of 84 Senna in the Toleman was about to steal certain victory from a struggling Prost in the rain. Jacky Ickx as the race steward made sure, that a French victory will be assured on "French" soil by throwing in the checkered flag before that could happen. The French were happy. At least until the end of the season when Prost lost the championship to Lauda because the Monaco GP only gave him half the points for the shortened race (so he got 4.5 points instead of 6 of a 2nd place to Senna, which would have given him enough for the title). NASCAR didn't invent the creative (yellow) flag, they just perfectioned it. :)

True. Although Stefan Bellof in the Tyrell 012 was catching Senna at an amazing rate aswell. There are some who believe that he would have won the race if allowed a couple more laps.

I was reading about it just last night in this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ken-Tyrrell-Authorised-Maurice-Hamilton/dp/0007143761/ref=sr_1_2/203-3245813-6659911?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1192629961&sr=1-2

...I guess we need something done for the F1 show, the best racetracks, the best cars, the best drivers, the most expensive tickets...just to see cars a mile away, passing at 200 mph...every 40 seconds?...4 cars on the fight, and 18 on the parade?...one crash and half the grid is gone...

...races are awfully boring...and that is some entertaining side F1 has lost...the posibility of mistakes that create caos is now only present if rain comes in...so we need more changing conditions, not the ridiculous hard/soft compund tire...

...we need more show...only legal...like sparks, mistakes, fire and disk glow!

donuts will be greatly appreciated!...even kisses to the camera and fence climbing...those FIA official pushing them to go up the podium are just annoying!

well, for most folks here, i hope the Goverment declares Monday public holiday after the race, should it be held in the night.

1 thing tho, the weather will be much more cooler here, big advantage. the heat here during raceday is terrible. but, most people live far from the circuit, so i hope the next day is holiday :D

    What about the fans?

Will the airhorns get replaced with glow sticks?

How about a firework during the winner's ceremony?
