Sounds like they've caught up to NASCAR and IRL In truth, it's good to see the teams making some effort to connect with the fans again.
Yes and yes. I love it when teams do things like this. A couple years ago I was at the Spanish GP and a lot of the teams had a show car somewhere on display in town. Somewhat sad that as a fan a show car is as close as one gets, but hey, better than nothing. Got to see Ferrari, Renault, Williams, McLaren, BAR and Toyota up close and personal. USGP used to be like that in its first year, then it got less and less each year. What BMW is doing here takes that concept a good step forward. I applaud them.
This is a wonderful idea. I only wish they would have it set up at the USGP. I would really like to get a chance to check that all out. It's a long shot, but maybe one day Ferrari will try something like this and let their fans have an up close look at stuff. Mark
No kidding! If you listen hard enough, you can almost hear the crickets chirping inside Tony George's head.
Plenty of room for them. USGP in its first year was a wonderful event with huge tents and stands from each manufacturer. Also we had the historic GP cars and that was just as cool as the modern ones. Heck, there was even a Challenge race, another great treat. And the paddock area was as big as in any Euro GP with VIP tents for all the guests. A few years later the VIP paddock is less than half as big, the historic GP cars gone, the Challenge race banned and only a few stands left selling the same T-Shirts I can order online from Speedgear. And then they wonder why the fans stay home.
Even the guy selling the dry-rub chicken and ribs outside Indy turn 4 wasn't there last year!! They jacked up the rates on the vendors, so he bailed. Sad faces all around my camp!
Story has it that the Challenge racers weren't racing enough for Tony George. He considered them not good enough for his Indy track, so he didn't welcome them back. Somebody remind me quickly what made Tony George so "great"? Ah, yes, birth.
Why do you think I don't like Tony George? And why do you think I wouldn't mind a relocation of the USGP to e.g. Las Vegas? Even if that means more travel expenses for me.
I thought it was the extraordinary high price for the Challenge series to run at Indy..not the lack of racing. Old Guy..you out there? why did the Ferrari Challenge stop going to Indy?
