My new 599 HGTE in 4th or 5th gear, manual mode, around 50 mph will suddenly lurch and make a noise like someone threw a wrench in the transmission. The car then goes into auto mode by itself. It can then be returned to manual.
Also sometimes while in reverse it comes out and into neutral by itself.
Anyone have this problem? Lucky you if you don't.
Please don't reply "Maybe you should look for the wrench in the transmission." as I already thought of that.

Arthur- Tex is correct. It is under warranty, for which you can be grateful. Have the dealer come pick it up if you do not feel comfortable driving it. None of those symptoms are anywhere near normal. You could have a leaking F1 line, air in the system, a software problem, clutch position sensor problem, short, etc, etc. Only way to find out is to hook it up to an SD3 and see what is wrong.

On a different note please keep us posted, I am seriously considering that or a Scud.

I'd call the dealer asap and tell them to come pick it up. They will quiz you on exactly what the situation was when it happened and send the information to Ferrari. To be on the safe side, I would insist the car be towed.

Ouch that hurts. Please let me know what you found to be the problem. My 599 is approaching end of warranty period. So I am investigating what kind of problems are 599 owners facing and why. Curious to know if it was abuse and how much they'd charge for a job to repair that.

I had the exact same thing with my 360. The problem was going from 3rd to 4th gear. The dealer will tell you that it's the clutch and it has to be replaced, DON'T listen to him!! It's a desperate attempt from the dealer to squeeze out some money Since the clutch is not covered by warranty.

The problem is with the ECU unit not the clutch.

I Thought Ferrari solved this problem With all the models that came after 2004.

T.F.- Nowhere near enough information to attribute it to the ECU. Plus there are two ECUs involved in gear selection. That is why diagnostic tools and qualified technicians need to be used.

Plus the post is nearly 2 months old and the problem has likely been rectified.

According to the owner Ferrari sent in a mechanic and the car was repaired.Unsure what the problem was.
