so today I was at a light and my f430 was in 1st gear, the light was on red for a while and all of a sudden it beeped a solid beep (roughly 2-3 second solid beep) and dropped from 1st to N automatically. The weather was cool and the car was properly warmed up... literally just pulling out of a shopping plaza so no hard runs. Has anyone have this happen to them before?

i believe my foot was on the brake the whole time.....so your saying if my foot comes off the brake the car would shift from first to N by itself? Isnt that a safety risk?

You can have your foot on the brake and still have this happen. If you are too light on the brake, the brake lights don't come on and the F1 will go to neutral. The way to prevent this is to step more firmly on the brake or just shift to N yourself.

It's the way it was designed. I believe they did this so that you don't leave the car in first, step out of the car, and then the next person (like a valet) accidentally hits the accelerator and the car takes off. There's lots of discussion and it's been shown that leaving the car in first does not wear the F1 clutch or throwout bearing.

There is no safety risk because if you press the gas pedal in N, nothing happens. The beep is there to alert you that it's gone to N.

Its easy to duplicate. Just stop the car and take your foot off the brake. After about 30 seconds or so you will see the exact same thing happen.

I remember the first time it happened to me, and at that time I didnt know F1 was programmed to do it.
figured my clutch or F1 was shot.
As has been said, keepyour foot firmly on the brake, or bring it to neutral.

happens to me all the time.

I consider it my warning beep, so I dont look like an idiot, standing on the gas while in neutral at a green light! :)

I concur. This is a safety issue. Happened to me many times.
