Statement from Sean Bratches, Managing Director Commercial Operations, Formula 1:

“Earlier today the City of Miami Commission took an important step by adding an item to their upcoming agenda, that if approved, will make way to bring Formula 1 to downtown Miami next season. We appreciate the community’s interest in hosting a Formula 1 race and look forward to working with local officials and stakeholders to bring this vision to life.

"With over half a billion fans worldwide, Formula 1 is the greatest racing spectacle on the planet, and Miami’s status as one of the world’s most iconic and glamourous cities, combined with its robust tourism infrastructure, makes Miami the perfect destination for Formula 1 and its fans.”

I still think it's the wrong venue. Few from the West coast will go where F1 is more popular. They already have an Indy car race and I don't see it as anything special. Will they host the Indy car and F1? Seems like too much for them to support.

    And, COTA will suffer.

The only thing I can think of is that they expect a lot of people from Europe and South America to attend. But then why hold it in the USA?

Formula 1 & Miami Grand Prix Proposal / Statement
    02 May 2018

Please find below a statement from Formula 1 detailing the sport’s proposal to hold a Grand Prix race in downtown Miami next season. This follows the publication of the agenda for the forthcoming meeting of the City of Miami Commission, in which a vote will take place to decide whether to proceed with these plans.
The full agenda for the meeting can be viewed here under Commission Agendas.

Stephen Ross, US entrepreneur and supporter of the proposed race added:

“Miami is a first-class global city and Formula 1 is a first-class global brand. In cooperation with the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County, I am confident we can deliver yet another global event that will be a destination for people from around the world and drive economic value to South Florida. From football and soccer to tennis and motorsports, Miami deserves only the best in music, food, art, fashion, and sports and entertainment, and that is exactly what we plan on delivering with a Formula 1 race.”

If Miami were to host a Formula 1 race and you would like to be notified of future developments and ticket opportunities, please visit F1MiamiGP.com

    Notes for editors
The exact timing of a Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix would be a matter for further discussion between F1, the FIA and the Miami authorities, but if approved we hope at this stage that the inaugural race would take place in October 2019.

Later this year, as part of a fan experience that has already seen us deliver F1 Live London last season, and the hugely successful fan festival in Shanghai, we will be hosting further fan festivals in Marseilles ahead of the FORMULA 1 PIRELLI GRAND PRIX DE FRANCE 2018, and of course in Miami itself, ahead of the FORMULA 1 2018 PIRELLI UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX in Austin Texas.

We will not be commenting further at this stage.

Would that make it back-to-back US races, Miami then COTA?
So you think COTA should be the only US venue?

They'd be well advised to make it the first race of the season in March, the weekend
    after Sebring.

The weather is the best that time of year, they've got their built-in base from Europe and
South America in town already, its the only time really.

Later in the summer or early fall, the weather is brutally hot, we've got Hurricanes all
    the way through October/November.

March would be the most suitable time.

I was hoping for Las Vegas. Even a return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway would be good . . . as well as convenient! But, I thing the 2005 Michelin Tire debacle put a bad taste in Tony George's mouth regarding F1.

+1 Vegas night race. Vegas has the infrastructure, airport, casinos, babes, booze, etc. and a laser light show to boot. As they pass through the "red sector" have the grid girls in cages hanging from cranes as the F1 cars pass underneath.....totally anti-PC!!! I'm dreamin right....Liberty would never go for that....sigh.

Absolute wrong venue. I don't understand these people who make the decisions for F1. Miami is a cesspool. Crime, rude, obnoxious people. Not the place for a world class event. The infrastructure is horrible as well. At least Vegas has the hotels and ancillary activity to be a draw.

I was in Miami helping out restoring power last September after hurricane Irma. I was very egar to go as Ive never been to Miami and knew that I would "truly get to see Miami" as I wasn't in tourist areas.

I'm from Ontario Canada and live north of Toronto so when I go to Toronto I can't believe the way people drive BUT Toronto has NOTHING on Miami. People drive like animals their. In fact, I had to drive as aggressive as the locals or they would walk all over you. People don't yield for ambulances, Fire Fighters or even the Police when the sirens are going. I was even restoring power to an off duty South Beach Miami Police Officer house and he told me since the "police shootings" happen with the media their is a total lack of respect for law enforcement or first responders. The bottom line according to him is that the city is over crowded which I agree with him, it would be crazy trying to get downtown to an F1 race.

All in all I enjoyed my 3 weeks there and the people we helped out were truly thankful......they couldn't believe that Canadians could take the Miami heat lol. Now, would I want to see an F1 race their......not really but if it happens thats cool. I would much prefer Watkins Glen or VIR but they are not up to FIA Tier 1 standard. I really hope COTA sticks around as I think its a great track and location for an F1 race. Texas is a great ambassador of the USA and North Carolina(NASCAR country) would be another great spot to flex some much needed American open wheel muscle.

Now if only Mosport(Canadian Tire Motorsports park) could once again host an F1 Grand Prix...

No. I think if someone wants to go to an F1 race they will chose between the two.

This leaves 2 races on the East Coast (Montreal and Miami) and one in the South (Austin). IMO, not the best geographical decision.

I will tell you why Vegas would work (provided they could get a place to run and it's in Oct/ Nov or at night)

Vegas is host to TWO Nascar events. Clearly car racing fans like coming to Vegas for a race weekend. Both of these Nascar events are larger than the attendance of a typical street car F1 race. Both of these are during the DAY. The race is so popular it was expanded to 2 events a year and is one of Nascar's bigger marketing events.

Vegas is host of the SEMA show, the biggest single convention for the Auto industry -- second only to the CES show in attendance. Hundreds of thousands of people in the car industry travel there and enjoy being there. Clearly car people will go to Vegas if the venue is correct.

So I don't understand Miami as it already has an Indy car race and it doesn't appear to be anything special to me.

I'd definitely go to Vegas for an F1 race... Miami, not so much. Going from the PNW to FL sucks. And if its in the beginning of the year, between Roar, the 24, and Sebring, ANOTHER trip to Florida, not happening.

I would drive to Vegas though, that would be a fun weekend... :D

I'm tired of F1 street circuits with little opportunity to pass and lousy viewing for the spectators. I tolerated Long Beach and Detroit, but I was not happy. Even though Montreal uses roads that are (or were) open to the public at times, it, like Melbourne, is not as restrictive and works quite well. Monaco? I have little desire to go; I think many people go just to say they've been to the race, but I'd rather go to Monza, Spa or Silverstone.

Miami to have no impact on Canada GP

    MAY 3, 2018

Canada GP promoter Francois Dumontier has played down the impact another F1 race in North America will have on the Montreal event.

It has emerged that Liberty Media and prospective promoters of a street race in Miami, Florida, are nearing a decision about whether to organise an event for 2019.

"The Commission took an important step by adding an item to their upcoming agenda, that, if approved, will make way to bring formula one to downtown Miami next season," revealed F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches.

It if happens, it will bring the number of North American races up to four, including Montreal, Austin and Mexico.

But Montreal organiser Dumontier told La Presse: "The Miami GP will have no impact on us.

"F1 is in charge of the logistics aspect, and we just signed a ten year contract that will take us to 2029," he added.

Dumontier also said Canada's June race date is safe, insisting changing it "has never been part of the discussions I've had. I don't see this issue coming up".

I'm going to guess that where the fans want a race has no impact on the decisions of F1 now or in the Bernie era. It all comes down to a city or country coming up with the cash and desire to do it. Sounds like the city of Miami will vote on it next week, so it's not a done deal.

But if I win the Powerball, it would be fun to bring a race to where I want it to be!
