I think kimi would of done better if massa didn't hold him back at the beginning of the race. what do you guys think?

That is not how it looked to me.
Massa looked very aggressive and tried constantly to get past Hamilton until he went of the track and ended up in fifth. From there on neither Massa nor Kimi seemed aggressive enough to make passes IMHO although Kimi got very close to Hamilton at the end.

KImi's instructions were to keep his revs down. Only Massa made any effort to pass Hamilton, probably because his car a a slightly lower fuel load. Kimi did not have the motor to go around Hamilton. Basically Hamilton held up Massa, who in turn held up Raikkonen, but not because Massa was slower or Kimi faster.

Consider when Massa was behind Kimi, Kimi still did not have the motor to pass Hamilton, let alone Alonso.

So no, Massa had no effect on Kimi's race.

Kimi made the mistake of following a conservative Massa into turn one, which allowed Hamilton to get second place, so Massa definitely affected Kimi's race but Kimi should have known better.

Massa reminded me of a first year rookie. The first turn he made a critical error in going wide to allow FA and Hamilton to take the lead going to the inside of the turn.

The F-cars just got out-cornered. Kimi could live with that. Massa reached for performance the car didn't have, and paid for that.

Kimi did get held up when Massa went very wide on turn one -- that let the McLarens get by. But from subsequent turns, it was pretty plain that the Ferraris just didn't have the lateral grip, for some reason.

    (New floor?)

Lewis Hamilton did it just right, for his race. You can't go down the inside without having more grip than the guy you're overtaking, unless the guy in front isn't at 100% or does something wrong.

The press likes to call Kimi "the ice man" because of his scandanavian origins, but if you think of "Ice Man" from "Top Gun", Hamilton played that part in Sepang.

The Ferrari simply didn't have the package to overtake a driver who wasn't making mistakes.

Massa got frustrated, and did make mistakes.

Hamilton is going to be trouble for the red cars.

No, it actually reminded me a little of Rubens when he was at Ferrari. Michael would pull away in 1st place and Rubens in 2nd would be holding people back.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, "Hamilton is a better roadblock than Massa was..." But in all seriousness, he drove an excellent race, both for himself and the team, and given a few more races Fred may not be too happy.

Alonso has years of experience now in F1. It is hard to image there is much room for improvement in his game. However Hamilton is only in his second F1 race and no doubt has lots of room for improvement as he gains experience. An improving Lewis Hamilton must be a scary thought for Ferrari. No doubt Alonso would prefer the status quo. After the race Lewis said to Ron 'I am going to win a race this year'. British GP maybe? And the fans go wild. It's only fair Ron, you let Alonso win in Spain...

We saw Massa's passing incapabilities when he was given the opportunity to pass LH early on...if you can't pass LH, then at least stay with him! Instead, Massa tries a "not-so-bright-move", TWICE and looses two positions! Oh my, has Massa got a lot to learn. (I guess the rookie sure show'd the veteran a thing-or-two)
Kimi, on the other hand, had a more heavier fuel load in the first stint. So he was wise to just try to stay close in case an opportunity arose. I believe he was instructed to "preserve the engine" for most of the race and insure some good points. However, in the final 10 laps, wasn't it interesting to see the difference in driving skill (between Kimi and Massa) when Kimi was behind LH. Kimi, who was obviously not happy with the performance of his Ferrari, was still able to cut away at LH's lead him by half-a-second a lap! I don't think it is a question of "if" Kimi could have passed LH. If there were 1 or two more laps in the race, I think it would be a question of "when".
IMHO...sorry for the long post. I'm just venting :)

Very good point, and my thoughts exactly. The last ten laps or so Kimi's driving couldn't have been matched by any other driver on the grid. If the race had been a lap or two longer he would have easily taken second place. Mass just couldn't get it done which is unfrotunately cause that means Ferrari is going to have a harder time at the WCC.

Wow, anyone else surprised by the BMW's? Heidfeld put up quite a fight to stay 4th! I wonder if Massa got the go-ahead to attack him or if he was playing it more conservative after he went off

Yeah by like two years to Alonso? Tell me, how often have you seen Michael Schumacher looking exhausted? Even last year at 37 he looked the same as always, it's a fitness issue, not age.

Massa sucks, PERIOD. What an embarrasment to be suckered into making the same mistake twice, by a rookie. And then he couldn't pass anyone on the track. Now that he's not suckling Michaels hind teat, he shows just how worthless he is.

Kimi didn't have a a fully functioning engine, yet at 90% capacity he did better than that worthless number two. Thank christ Ferrari have him as a driver....

It is time to put red instead of chartreusse on the top of Kimi's car.
