Funny, I turned it off after Max passed. I was thinking the same thing. Charles needs to learn how to save his tired. He might have been better off staying behind and pushing Max until the end and then pull the pass on him. Tomorrow will be interesting.
I'm liking the sprint more and more. There is not much penalty for second place. (If LEC loses the WDC by a point...we can point back to these moments...) Ferrari have data and race craft. Why not push to see where the limit of the red is. If you finish first, bonus, if you finish second and the tires were grained out, you've learned where the limit is. if you could have gone .05 seconds slower and that gained you those two laps to do the win, then that's what you should do. Anything can happen tomorrow. Looking forward to it! Hero of the day is Sainz. He did what was needed to get up in the front of the pack to help his team now. sjd
Yep Leclecs tyres whwre off and wasn't going to challenge max anyways...whilst max was pushing so that leclerc couldn't get close But too big a wing adjustment will **** the aero balance (rear wing isn't allowed)
I hope today put to bed fantasies that Ferrari are going to cake walk to the championship. Red Bull are not idiots. Yes, they've had some reliability issues, but they didn't unseat Mercedes in the WDC because of luck. No, they are a serious racing team top to bottom, in the same way that Williams were when they were our rivals. And like Williams, they have Newey. The season is going to be won based on setups, reliability, and consistently. Thus far, Ferrari haven't **** the bed in any of those departments yet, while Red Bull have missed one setup horribly in Australia, and have obviously had 3 DNF's. Ferrari, strong and consistent, which is what I like to see. Sainz looked great out there with some of those passes, and he looks ready to rejoin the hunt and get his first win soon. Lecerclerc was smart. He didn't fight for a minor sprint race and risk damage to the car. He knew he had way more to lose than Max, home race or not. McLaren and Renault didn't look too shabby. Not on our pace, but looked good. They seemed to have finally figured their cars out some. How about the Alfa Romeo and Haas machines? Always have cheered for them, and to see them getting points is great. Mercedes totally **** the bed on their setup. They're pretty much screwed for this year, and at this rate Hamilton will get passed by Norris for 7th in the standings. Serves the whole team right for their unsporting and disgraceful behavior post Abu Dhabi.
That tells you that Verstappen and Red Bull are still a big threat. Red Bull failed twice on reliability, not because they were not competitive.
Maybe Ferrari would have pitted and who knows degradation on medium or hards we will be fine! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When did rbr unseat Mercedes? I assume u are referring so far this year because the reigning champion is Mercedes, no? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They beat them in the WDC, and they would've beaten Mercedes in the WCC if not for both Mercedes drivers ramming Red Bull out of a good 40 points with crashes.
Yep, Melbourne they just screwed up the setup terribly I'm thinking. They've got a fast car no doubt about it. Ferrari would be foolish to count them out.
This ! Ferrari need to improve regularly the car this year because Red Bull has already demonstrated the last years being able to be very good on development side.
These cars are really not suited for this track, if there wasn't a drs zone it would be impossible to overtake.
Perhaps, but they are not living up to their reputation, are they? I can't figure out how they managed to bring up a car that is so troublesome, compared to the others.
Sainz might be the guy to watch tomorrow. His pace was excellent today, even stuck behind other cars for a lap or two.
Max beat Lewis but Mercedes beat Red Bull so the rest is what if’s Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They beat them in the WDC, end of story. And it ain't what if's. Red Bull were by far the best team last season. They're like Williams in the late 80's -90's. Never count them out.
Mercedes shot themselves in the foot arrogantly assuming they were ahead, running those mule sidepods, playing cutesy sandbag games, and lost tons of testing time they're never getting back because of it. Can't put the blame on Hamilton or Russel for that. The blame is right at the front office of Toto Wolff and James Allison.
Mercedes has lost some important staff from its design office towards the end of last year, and even recently. Horner has been bragging they joined Red Bull, and Toto tried to put a brave face to that jibe. That, and the limit on wind tunnel time may explain why the car is so bad.
Mercedes didn't think it was possible the new rules could throw off their development, and didn't take testing seriously until it was too late. Cautionary tale for other teams.
