Exactly. George made no mistakes this race. His start was perfect as were overtakes. Mercedes messed up and made him pit unnecessarily under safety, which is the reason he lost.
nope. he was losing today george was thrown in at the deep end, showed speed, tire management, skill, race strategy, racecraft, calm under pressure, steadfastness etc. all the qualities of a champion. the guy has been rowing at the back of the grid in near anonymity, and come in for one race in an unfamiliar car and does better than the n.2 driver??? sorry hamilton just lost a lot of credibility.
He lives rent free in this forum. Either the car does all the work, or the team sabotages Russell. I'm reminded why these threads aren't worth watching the race alongside anymore. Was thinking Monza where they told Lewis to pit in a closed pit lane & gave him the penalty.
Yes was not his fault, agree Russell, Leclerc and other young drivers remind me of Lewis at that age.
Absolutely. Lewis has been at the butt end of enough bad calls by the team to confidently tell them to go take a hike and let him decide his own strategy and fate. And he's done that fairly often of late.
No new talent always comes along to replace the old talent and the public forgets rather swiftly when the old talent leaves lol. RIcci said it best this week - Russell will enjoy the much easier to drive fast Mercedes. When the car is so finely balanced its less work and effort.
Mercedes ruined Russell's race - but it could not make Bottas look good (they also ruined his race for good measure...)
I think you’re right on both points....there is still a possibility we may not see LH next season. We think he wants to break MS’ WDC record...maybe he doesn’t. it looks like he will battle well against Max and Leclerc (and old dogs like Ric and Checo)
They ruined Bottas first. He was left out on useless tires and they lost 5 sec for him before his first stop. What they did to George and Bottas later was needless and took Bottas momentum away as he was closing on Russell rather swiftly. Bottas did not help himself with the slow start again.......
Yep. Lewis is also a master of tire management as well, so if he wants to stay out & make them work, chances are he'll do so.
I think it's entirely possible to both think the Mercedes is the best car possibly to ever race in Formula 1, to acknowledge Hamilton is a great driver, and to recognize the immense talent George Russell clearly has. That Russell has to go back to the Williams does all of Formula 1 a disservice. The same with a driver like Perez winning a race only to lose his job. There's a LOT to digest after this race that's for sure.
