Agree with the whole post but do you have any link to what Lauda said? 2007?! I had no idea they started THAT early. I thought 2011ish.

It sure seems that way....hypothetically. None of the parties you mentioned did ANYTHING to slow down Mercedes dominance.

Mercedes had a 100hp advantage over its rivals in 2014 which is MEGA in F1.

Mercedes "cruised" into victory.....again and again. You could have been Stroll as a driver in 2014 and won the WCC title for Mercedes.

One could pretty much blame Cosworth DFV for the 1970s and early 1980s dominance in the same way.

i think any participating manufacturer would attempt to have the same advantage...Ferrari, Brawn and Red Bull had similar structural advantages (though not as sustained, obviously). As long as there is disparate prize money offered for Championship position, companies will want to maximize their ROI.

As I’d written previously, Merc basically hired Hamilton to ensure their wins & titles once the turbo era commenced. His 21 victories in 5 years placed him well as the lead option, since Vettel was clearly not intending to leave Red Bull in the midst of a string of titles.

he's not wrong...the onlyy races a team other than Mercedes won was because Mercedes had a very rare double reliability problem, a poor timed SC, and the 2 crashing into each other.

Given a poor enough teammate Stroll would've been champion in that car.
