let off the gas just A LITTLE prior to upshifting. Get the feeling it may be easier on the clutch too. Thoughts?

It would seem like the more throttle, the quicker the shift, the less clutch used?

However I've been told by techs that it is designed to have your foot planted and that lifting isn't necessary.

I'm not sure what the answer is - they get paid to replace clutches.

Cladd- Yes, it does make for smoother shifts, especially in the lower gears, and is also easier on the clutch and drivetrain.

When you upshift, the F1 system automatically lets up on the throttle to synchronize revs on upshifts, just like it raises the revs for downshifts. It still makes for smoother upshifts if you help it out if you are not hurrying. If in Sport and above 5000 rpm, the system works fine without lifting.

I find the lift required for smooth shifts decreases as you go up through the gears, with shifts to fifth and sixth requiring barely a breath of lift.

FWIW, I sold my 360 with 13,000 miles on the clutch and 12% wear and I sold my CS with 22,000 miles and 20% wear. I've never lifted for shifts and have done pretty well with the clutch. Btw, I purchased the CS with 4,900 miles and 11% wear so I put on 17,000 miles with 9% wear. :) Just my .02.
