    I had my car detailed the other day, including the engine compartment. When I drove it today for the first time since, the car hesitates, slips, then jumps a bit as it begins from a standing start in first gear. Car shifts perfectly through all other gears, up and down. Is this just a coincidence that the problem started after the detail job? Or could it be that the problem was caused by some of the work that was done in the engine compartment...something got hit or bumped, etc. Has anyone experienced a problem like this?

    As above!

    I'm sure many an owner has noticed an extra little issue after a detailing and Youtube/Google have many Ferrari accidents with a "detailer" found to have been behind the wheel (just taking it for a spin to dry it off "naturally" before applying polish & wax).

    Never leave your car with someone you don't trust to look after it correctly.

    ^^ As above, detailing the car will not cause this. An ignorant driver will though.
    If I paid for a detail I would stay and watch so I can do it myself next time.

    Sorry for not addressing the "mileage in, mileage out" issue at the outset, but I never dreamed an owner would allow a detail shop to drive their car. Never even thought to touch that base. The detail shop was mobile. I had the keys in my pocket at all time. They never even started the car. I mowed the yard while they detailed.
    While I thought from the beginning that there was a very remote chance that having the engine detailed could have amounted to shifting problems, I thought it worth the chance to at least inquire about that possibility.

    Please explain how an ignorant driver ( do you mean the detailer or the owner?) could cause this problem with an F1???

    I'm new myself to F1, but I'd agree that its likely a wiring connection either wet or now loose.

    Many of the connectors in the engine bay are not as water tight as one might hope. Get some contact cleaner, disconnect and spray them, then reconnect. Your problem should go away.

    This is what I've been looking for. I came here looking for honest solutions to an honest problem and all I got was quotes from Ferris Bueller.

    Clutch sensors are around the oil filler neck on the top of the engine where you check the oil at its base IIRC. I'd be thinking the clutch position sensor connector might have gotten wet, varying the normal resistance.

    That's correct, it's accessible from the passenger side.

    you guys are smart. that's why I asked. I stand amazed at how much you can learn from this website. I've only been a Ferrari owner for two years and have a lot to learn. But because the car shifted so well prior to the detail job, I had a hunch that could have been the problem.

    There is electrical contact dryer you can buy at the auto parts store. In my business with pool heater, we coat the circuit boards with electrical contact protector. It keeps any moisture from coming in contact with the electrical.
