Cause WOW the new Formula E car looks amazing. . It even makes the Halo put up the look to be part of the car rather than looking ugly. This reminds me of actually Ferrari's own future f1 concept and to the lesser extent the Red Bull X series cars from Gran Turismo.
The 2018 cars will reportedly be good for the whole race...eliminating the need for mid-race changes.
I think that's next year......another year of boredom and 'fanboost'...............do you really think it will get better?
I liked the post, but it’s for the humour, cos I can’t be bothered to waste even a few minutes watching overgrown slot cars, no matter how sexy they might look. Just like the scale models on the slot track, no matter if they look like the sexiest Ferrari, they still have the same boring innards, and go the exact same speed........ I’d be asleep in moments if I tried to watch them silently glide around
It looks hideous to me, like a BAC Mono that has mated with one of those Zenos things and they added a Halo. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That car looks artificial and crap, trying to be spectacular as most of the nonsensical fan-made renderings of future F1. In racing more than anywhere form follows function. It is a luxury of FE to have one chassis for all and to be slow enough to not bother about aero. The looks of F1 being defined by engineers and not fancy designers in suits is what defines the cars.
I should have said the 2018/19 cars will be able to go the full race distance...the same cars that will have the halo...the original subject of this thread.
Like it or not, it's the future of racing. It won't be that long till all series use E cars and eventually there won't be any drivers in the cars. The upcoming generations like the fact they can play sports, races cars, fight wars with out having to go through anything more than sitting in their rooms on a computer. Sad fact of life.
You know what F1 designers look for when designing a car? Whatever makes it go faster. Anything and everything else is inconsequential. This purity is one of the things I most like about F1.
These cars are not silent. The sound is obnoxious, otherwise I would be interested in watching a race or two.
I mostly agree... But it shows the complexity of the problem when Liberty makes changes. The purity that you like leads to extremely busy designs on (for example) the front wing...which is something that other people dislike... As much as some on this forum would like to think that every F1 fan shares their likes and dislikes, it simply isn't the case. At least Liberty is trying to make pragmatic decisions... Bernie was always just shooting from the hip and ended up giving the foxes control of the hen house.
So I saw this at CES in Vegas a few weeks ago. Driverless electric race cars. This is the future, unfortunately. I saw this and thought "meh!" Lots of technology and speed but emotionless. Welcome to your future world technocrats. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
yep, I posted this "roborace" about 8 months ago maybe? There's youtube videos of this. The engineers get the reward. I felt the same way.....meh.
