    Nope.

It's unfortunate, I actually really like that series on the rare occasions that they show up on TV here. Usually if we see that stuff it's on very very late at night, several months after it's actually occurred.

Was interesting to see the V8 Supercars race on an F1 track under identical conditions. Reminds me of the F1 vs Champ Car comparison we made at Montreal.

Anyway, the pole time for the V8 Supercar race was a 1:57.xxx. The fastest Formula 1 lap was a 1:25.xxx

So that means the V8 Supercars were a full 32 seconds slower! Or in other words they'd be lapped by Formula 1 cars after only 3 laps.

    ;)

james, you should see the speed comparison demo they do......

BMW 1 series road car drives away from start line.........40 seconds later V8 supercar drives away to catch it..... meanwhile, Williams still has tyre warmers and lap top connected etc......33 seconds after V8 is gone, Williams takes off....

I was watching from the second last turn..... the raod car comes by as the F1 is still half a lap away. You think NO WAY will it catch up.... but incredibly it does. Photo finish today....road car wins by 50cm. Speed difference on the finish line....over 140 km/h.

V8 actually broke down for the run i watched, but it too finishes at the same time, each time they run it, they adjust the handicap at the start based on the previous run, so in theory they should all cross the line together.

It really is a great demo, you just don't get how fast F1 is until you see something like this.....

Curiously....the Williams is bristling with sensors....way more than the race cars run with..........cheeky buggers gather a bit of extra data while they're at it....but it is a 2004 spec car.

I would love to see a video of that. It wasn't in Ten's coverage today.

From memory I've seen 4 other speed comparisons like this. Road Car vs 'Touring' Car vs Formula 1 car.

The first one was over a decade ago. Can't remember the slower two cars but Senna was at the wheel of the Formula 1 car.

The second one was by Ferrari in '97 (Fiat vs Ferrari 550 Maranello vs Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari F310B).

The third one I saw was by McLaren in '98 (Mercedes A-class vs Mercedes E-class vs David Coulthard in the McLaren MP4/13).

The fourth one was by BMW Williams from a season or two ago. I think Montoya was driving.

Also Jeremy Clarkson did a comparison of a Ferrari F40 and a Jordan Formula 1 car back in the late 90's, with him driving the F40. Except the Ferrari had no headstart (acceleration test), and was left in the dust before even getting to the first corner. He pulled the Ferrari to a halt, looked out the window to the camera, glanced one more time down the track, and remarked: "Where's it gone!?"

    :)

Sometimes Speed Channel broadcasts Aussie V8 supercar races. They are probably among the most fun to watch!!!

sometimes rather amusing, but that pic couldn't be further removed from an Aussie V8! :D

they're stripped out taxi-cabs with a hi-perf corvette engine and warpaint.

well maybe, but corners are standard on our tracks, so our domestic race driver's right arm gets a werkout that isn't primarily based on beer drinking and masturbation.

We have that serie here on Motors TV. I find it so boring. The cars look the same, are ugly . Its fun for 5 mns but only if you like crashing.

well the one overriding benefit for me is that because it has such a huge following with the bogans here, we devote FOUR WHOLE DAYS to it here in the-city-that-always-sleeps.

i was very fond of the Adelaide F1GP and optimistically (stupidly  ) await it's grand return. until then, march/april every year 3/4 of the adelaide F1 race-track is rebuilt a couple miles from where i live and the sound of angry machines fills the air again. i don't much enjoy the V8's, but i love the Nations Cup, which is where you get like an exotic version of gran turismo right there in front of you, ferrari's battling it out with diablo's and GT3's with a bit of american muscle thrown into the mix. :)
