It's always like this up until qualifying for the first race, then the 'usual suspects' rise to the top. Happens EVERY year.
Its just so nice to see some new names at the top of the charts. Otherwise it is the S.O.S. Looks like the F1 Soap Opera has a new story line.
Kin hell , this just keeps getting better! Ok Ok testing but ...it's looking a great car.. I'm worried now they going to get dragged back down by some FIA infraction. Well we at least can see who will end up better of the two, with decent car's JB or RB, I like both.
Even know that this is only winter testing GP, but with so many variables for the 2009 season, it is certainly going to be a very interesting F1 season. If all these times are legit, I wonder if Honda is kicking themself in the head right now for pulling out. I wonder how much of a role does the MB engine play in this case. Anyway, it is good to see other teams becoming more competitive.
if they were still running that POS Honda engine, they would still be at the bottom of the time charts
You got that right, though I prefer them to be using a Ferrari engine, that way if they beat Scuderia Ferrari, at least I'll have consolation with the motor!
I would imagine alot of the work on this years car was done with Honda, However I'am wondering whether there was to many cooks spoiling the broth when Honda was in total control, RB and maybe Fry left to there own devices can now shine, it seems strange to me with the little testing they have done, the car appears so quick, imagine what it would be like if they had done more! RB must have had this take over in the pipe line mid last year, but who knows, maybe they just got lucky, and hit the nail on the head with there car. I'am sure having a Merc power plant is more than a help, but you have to look at Mclaren for a comparision, when all said and done it's just testing, but it's looking damn good and I'am getting real keen on the racing to start now!!..to find out!
I have been thinking along the same lines. Maybe all the other teams are sandbagging so that Brawn can snag a major sponsor... Just the same, I am a fan of Honda, Jenson and Reubens so I will be rooting for the Brawn team this year. Scott
I'm not so sure. "Honda" tanked development on last years car to concentrate on this years car. Assuming that there were no major issues with installing the Merc engines (and so far the car look s reliable) I don't see why the car can't be competitive straight out the box. The problem will be maintaining the form as the big boys throw money at their cars to resolve any problems they have now.
exactly. it wouldn't have escaped Brawn for one second that they had a 'sled' from the outset last year and that the rule changes for '09 presented an opportunity to get a jump on the competition. toward that end, they spent the lion's share of the year working toward '09. however, having said that, they will not be blitzing the field in OZ... but could be 'competitive'. as for the Merc motor, it was never the bench mark and, as was mentioned, is certainly not the key to Brawn's current 'form'...that is down to good aero and running under weight...IMO.
I highly doubt it, but in this financial environment I would not be surprised because I'm sure the other teams benefit from having Honda on the grid.
I don't think they are kicking themselves in the head right now, I think if Honda was the fastest, and won the first 4 races in a row it would not help the corporate bottom line enough to make a difference, not in THIS economy. Now, if this was 3 years ago, maybe, but not now.
Brawn and others have been quietly suggesting that, if their car made it to the grid this year, it would be "something special." Given that Honda gave up on last year's car to focus on this one mid-season, I think we may be seeing the real deal here. I'm going to be cheering for Brawn this year myself. Button has been long suffering in the Hondas and, for the underdog of underdog teams, Brawn GP's success would give F1 a much needed feel-good story.
I know all this testing means nothing, but, there's a possibility that Brawn GP cars could be the most advanced car, aero wise out there. They spent the whole of last year preparing the cars for thsi year, with Ross overlooking the whole thing. Other teams like Toyota, Mac, Ferrari, etc all had to focus on the 2008 season, as well as the 2009 season, not an easy task comparing to Brawn. As for Mclaren, there's huge rumours that they're finding it very difficult with the rear end of the car, particularly with the 2009 spec rear wings. It would be logic for them to go sandbagging for 2-3 sessions, but t/out this time, it's a fact that they're using the 2008 spec rear wings to shoot up the time sheets.
I was wondering .. is it possible that after last week's FOTA meeting that the other teams are going easy (as theyve done alot of testing already and at this stage it is as much about reliability as speed) in order to give BrawnGP a leg up in order to attract sponsors? I know it's a stretch, but then so was believing BrawnGP would top the time sheets.
