I don't get the system. After watching qualifying this morning, I decided to try to figure it out. It seems like there are two lines on the pit straight. Some random line before the start/finish line, and the start/finish line. The clock for a lap stops after, not when, the cars cross the first line, or something like that. They don't stop on a line. Why don't they stop the timer on the start/finish line, and when exactly does the timer stop? Hell, where is the timer?

The timer is at the start finish line and usually at two other points on the track, giving the track different sectors thus giving us sector times.

If you're referring to today, I recall the commentators saying something about timing being a bit messed up for the tv feed so that might have been the delay. Also one should expect a slight delay from the actual timing to the TV feed just because of data transfer.

The other "solution", assuming you're watching live of course, is the data feed from Bernies official site - The same thing that Varsha and crew are watching - It's very cool when you see one of 'em "go purple" as they like to say :)

    Cheers,

Speed TV had the great idea of putting a tape delay on qualy and practice, so the website is a good 5 minutes ahead of those.

Last time I watched a race live either one or two races ago, the live timing was spot on the with broadcast. Maybe it's changed since then.

Races are not delayed, but practice and quali are delayed a little so Speed can do a pre-quali/practice show.

Qualifying was about 9 minutes delayed from real time on live timing. The live races differ from live timing due to commercials. It has been like this for several years now.
