Curious, does the F1 trans shift as hard as a regular 6 spd? A seller I spoke with said he was now looking for a 6 spd because of the shifting of his 2000 360 F1 trans...

Also, I am still looking for an "00 - '03 360 Modena. Prefer yellow...but will consider anything.

There are some really good deals on Yellow ones right now. I just snatched the best deal up but of course I am biased. :) I would say there are a couple super good deals on manual yellow ones right now but after driving the F1 I would never want to own anything different. The F1 shifts absolutely awesome nothing like any other manual/auto I have driven(of course I am comparing it to Audi/Chrysler/Lexus so I don't know if you would even put them in the same sentence). But I really think it is personal preference.

The F1 will shift hard if you want it to. But most of the time its really docile. I love it. Much better overall than the "high-tech" SMG3 in my M6....

Mark- If you drive it like you would a manual shifter car (both have the same transmission and clutch, only the shifter mechanisms and T/O bearing are different), it will work fine with no problems and long clutch life. If you drive it like an automatic, you and it will not be happy.

You do get some pretty good pops in Sport when shifting at 7000 rpm or above, but that is one of the fun parts.

Depends on what you mean by "hard" shifting. The 360 F1 system is amazingly intelligent at reacting to prevailing circumstances. If your foot's on the floor and you pull the shift at red line, you'll get a head-snapping full blown drag race power shift. Fantastic howling engine punctuated by an instantaneous and scary violent gear shift. On the other hand if you're cruising through the burbs with your babe just reaching the posted limit, it shifts smoother and slicker than goose ****. Not too fast, not too slow, just right. Obviously smoother than a "real" automatic, only the change in engine RPM to show a shift was made.

Another factor is that MY'02 and later cars have an upgraded TCU which provides noticeably smoother shifting. The later TCU can also be loaded with updated software for improved performance over time. Perhaps your owner friend's earlier F1 system was not to his liking although the earlier TCU still provides amazingly slick operation which adapts to circumstances.

In any case, it's difficult to imagine any 360 F1 being described as "hard shifting". Maybe the system is not functioning properly needs some type of attention? We need a more detailed description before any useful suggestions can be made.
