I have a Stradale that will not up shift past second gear. Is there a good source on this forum which describes the f1 system in detail? I am able to pull both paddles to get into neutral and then down shift to the required gear. I don't know if this would help in the diagnosis of my problem. The downshifting functions seem to be working fine.

Yes, the search function will reveal a plethora of F1 details.

To start look for discussions on hydraulic pump motor, and maybe the shift potentiometers. Also clutch wear. Look for shift actuator threads. Bleeding. Cleaning angular sensor 182194, cleaning speed sensor 168729.

Most likely you will have a low pressure problem from a weak hydraulic pump. You can get that confirmed via a Ferrari diagnostic center. But if you are a do it yourselfer than by all means engulf yourself in the search function with my suggestions.

Whatever you find is likely to need an SD2 to diagnose. We are kind of limited to topping off or replacing half of the F1 fluid, checking for leaks, and fixing the little reverse shift lever if it breaks, plus what Michael mentioned. And replacing the F1 pump relay if you have an early CS with the 30 amp relay instead of the later 50 amp (likely sometime in November 2003) relay. The 360 WSM has an explanation of the F1 system operation, and a fault diagnosis section, but it is heavily dependent on use on an SD2.

The 360 Spider WSM is the latest available and can be downloaded for free from ferraridatabase.com. Have seen a CS WSM out there, but never picked up one.

most likely bad speedo sensor, my 355 did the same thing. Is your speedo working? if not, bingo....!

I had whats sounds like the exact same issue. It was a transmission sensor with a broken wore. They have to drop the tranny and drain to replace, but mine worked fine afterwards.

This could be pressure issue but from my experience potentiometer is more likely. I have fixed many vehicles with this same concern. Usually if it was a pressure concern the hose or fittings would leak leaving evidence of fluid on the ground. hope this helps.

If the fluid is low this would cause the transmission to have a delayed and harsh shift when it does engage, you need to check the level when the vehicle is running.

    Some things you can try
If it will shift gears when stationary its probably the speed sensor.
The actuator could have become loose where the actuator bolts to the transmission, you can check this by having someone shift it while you look underneath. There should be no movement of the actuator.
You could clean the connections at the hydraulic pump they sometimes give problems.

Or as others have said plug it into an sd and it will diagnose it for you.

There is a self calibration in the WSM for the octopus but if it worked before then I have never seen them go out of calibration on their own.

Oddly the car has started working perfectly again. I don't know if this is the beginning of an intermittent problem or not. Everybody has given me some good suggestions to look into, which I appreciate!. The car has no leaks at all, but I will pay more attention to the fluid levels. When the car didn't shift, it did not matter if the car was moving, it would not go through the gears.

I had the same (would not shift from 2nd to 3rd) yesterday. I switched to auto, and it shifted. I switched the auto back off and all good.......hope it was a glitch!

One more piece of the puzzle .... I have been blowing the 5 amp instrument cluster fuse lately, I'm wondering that if the dash lights and guages are not working, the shifting problem is a cause of that? Does it need that input to work properly?. Right now everything is working properly, but does one affect the other?
