Well it feels like spring time here in Las Vegas, but my 99 355 is making it feel more like the deep freeze. I have never had a problem with the F1 transmission before, but last month
when I had new tires put on; the car refused to go into 1st from neutral. Of course this
happened at a stop light which was pretty embarrassing. I drove the car this past Sunday
and she did the same thing. I was forced to keep it in 1st gear at stoplights lest I be honked at again. There is no problem shifting either up or down through the gears, and it seems that
if I put the car into reverse when it won't go into 1st cures the problem. Any thoughts ???

If reverse also works it could be something mechanical in first gear. That being said you might want to take it to a dealer and have them put it on an sd computer. Possibly it needs to relearn but I'm guessing it's more mechanical.
I guess that's not entirely true if you read your WSM it will tell you what component of the f1 is used to select first. It's also possible it's electrical and that components plug might just need to be cleaned.

All these components are behind the D/S rear tire after you pull off the inner fender if your not sure of the plug and have no WSM unplug each lead 1 at a time clean and replace its worth the couple hours.

A quick scan will tell you what the F1 error is. Allot of times it's something simple like a sticking mircro switch. There is one is the decklid latch that I find to be a common issue with F1 cars.
