TV ratings hit seven-year high Monday, 22, October, 2007, 13:44 Nine million people sat down to watch Lewis Hamilton bid for title glory via ITV Sports live coverage of the Brazilian Grand Prix. While the 22-year-old British rookie narrowly missed out on realising his dreams, the season finale recorded the highest viewing figures in seven years. The ratings on ITV1 peaked at a massive 10.6 million viewers, 50 percent of the television audience. Coverage of the race itself averaged 9.0 million viewers (47pc share) with the whole programme from 4-7pm averaging 7.3 million (41pc share). The figures make it the most watched race since 2000, and across the season as a whole they reached the highest average (3.4 million per race) since 2001 a 41pc increase on the 2006 season. Mark Sharman, ITVs Director of News and Sport, said: Its been a superb season of Formula 1 with viewing figures at a six-year high. Lewis Hamilton might have narrowly missed out on the world championship but his impact on the sport has been huge. His appeal transcends the core sports audience and in the space of just one year he has become a global superstar. I have no doubt next years championship will be equally exciting. END OF ITV ARTICLE I wonder what the total ratings for all stations were.
