In the article they also mentioned that with the car you get the maintenance and driving lessons included in the price. You also get a private test day at the track, assuming it's available. At least that's what I recall. They pretty much treat you like an F1 driver, getting the seat and cockpit molded to your, and all of that fun stuff. Even if it's detuned by a couple thousand RPMs I'm sure it's still fatiguing to drive. So those 20 hours or so before a rebuild could easily last you a year.

I'd love to find out how much the F2002 would go for. In a few years I'm sure it'll be up for sale, after the technology is all old news. I'm sure that car would fetch a lovely price.

Chassis #205 (the last F1-2000 made) will be at Bonham's Monaco auction.

    Current price range on a F2002 is $1,400,000 - $1,500,000.

They're already offering it up for sale? That interesting especially since there's been so many rumors floating around that the F2004 is more of an evolution of the F2002 than the F2003GA. I'm sure they'll be pretty picky about the buyer and what the car can and can't do.

Saw something interesting in the back of Motorsport today. Car #1 ad lists a 1982 Arrows in Ragno livery for sale, with only 2 races left before a rebuild, previously raced by Brian Henton and Marc Surer (yawn). Price: 200K Pounds.

Two pages away we find car #2. A 1990 Ligier from the prestigious Philippe Alliot/Nicolas Larini era. Cosworth rebuilt in 2002, ready to race. Price: 125 Pounds.

Across the page is car #3, a 1983/84 Toleman, built for and debuted by Aytron Senna, in which he scored his first-ever Formula 1 points. Car was restored in early 90's and comes with original Brian Hart turbo plus spares, extra block and team clothing. Price: 125K Pounds.

Now, personally I find car #3 to possess slightly more historical significance. And with the prices of F1 cars, especially those of any lineage, I would think that this is quite a bargain. Is there something so obvious here, that maybe I'm missing it?

The C&D article mentioned that the rev limit is dropped by about 2000 rpm to make the engines last a bit longer.

Apparently, another problem is finding the proper laptop to "start" the engine, becuase the software takes care of getting everything primed and ready. They said that they are trying to get it so that it only takes 1 crew member to get the car running, as opposed to the 3 it normally takes. They also buy up laptops from the era of the car to ensure compatibility (there was comment something along the lines of them being a PC museum as well). One of their side projects is coming up with universal software that will run on any laptop, and will start any of the cars. As of the time of the writing of the article, they weren't there yet.
