There is actually not too much of a difference in sound, the V8 seems to have a lower tone to it. It's hard to tell unless you hear them both live. I'm glad the V8 sounds good.

Do you think they are running the V8 at full rpm's which is suppost be something like 23000 rpms? Otherwise I really can tell the difference, if anything I think the V8's sound a little better. My only complaint is how much slower they are than the 10 cylinders, almost 6 seconds slower, yikes!

I agree, v8 sounds pretty good, not quite as complicated as the v10 though, but still nice. Do you have a v12 clip by chance?

Is that because they have restricted engine size? Or is it a matter of cylinder count?

6 seconds slower because down on power. It won't be too long for engine manufacturers to find more power out of them. I mean, we were at 800hp for the good engines around 2002 and now close to 950 3 seasons later.

Actually both clips sound like they were taken from the same point in the circuit. I've never heard a V8 sound anything like that unless it is being spun pretty high so i'd say yes it was probably about 20,000 at least.

Forget that. Bring back the V12's.

Didn't the motor that Honda used for the Suzuka grand prix this year was putting out 1000 hp? I am sure by the end of next season, the V8 will be putting out 820 hp and above, maybe 850hp. The person that builds my motors for karting use to work for Honda's motorsport division and said that they had the capability of running a V8 to 23,000 rpm back in the early 80's.

Yea, but that was for 1 race. I was talking about the 2 race engines that put out around 950 hp.

I agree on that! Yeah the sound is about the same. The V8 sounds alittle more higher pitched then the V10.

Or...let them run whatever they want, but with certain restrictions (displacement, turbo boost, maybe RPM). Like when they used to have 3+ different engine types you could use. I want the 4 cylinder turbos, V8s, V10s, V12s, etc all out there.

actually, to be honest, when ur actually at a race, i think both v8s and the beloved v10s will sound alike. it's pretty shocking. i was thinking that v8s will sound much more softer than that

I think pretty much an V type engine is going to sound the same. We're talking tens of thousands of RPM's here. Still amazing how much power those things put out!
