Hearing alot of negatives about the F1 option...shifts at 400ms , jerks in reverse and slow traffic, cant rev... debating whether todo F1 but sounds like 6 speed is the winner
I think you will hear a lot about why one is better that the other. Do a search, there are several threads out there. I have driven both but decided on the 6 speed as the gated shifter always had a romantic appeal to me. Probably because I'm an old fart and F1 didn't exist back in the "old days" in street cars anyway. If I get a newer model in the future I would be tempted to get an F1 tranny. Steve
While I prefer the stick shift for feel/control, one advantage to the F1 for used car buyers is that the tranny is likely to be in better shape because the F1 computer doesn't miss/grind as many shifts as does a human driver.
Costs nothing to have the relays fixed . Or you can buy it direct from Denso for $3,000 F1 all the way IMO.
True, assuming you're buying a new Ducati 848 to ride along with fixing the pump for that price Seriously do a search, there's plenty of thoughts on the merits of each. Searching deeper will reveal threads on repairing the F1 pump (on the rare occasion that it does go) for $2k.
I have owned both in 355 form. My current car is a 6spd, I prefer the 6spd now over the F1, this might have something to do with the troubles I had with the F1 system, but the main reason is the way an F1 drives, there a great system for track work or a spirited drive but for normal driving they are to full on, the shift hard and fast all the time, think about when you are driving, most of the time a gear change could take 3-4 seconds and it would not matter, in the F1 its is full speed all the time. There are 2 stages to the speed of the shift in F1 cars, when you are using more than something like 70% of the throttle it moves into super fast shift mode (sport) but in normal driving it shifts much faster then is necessary. My concern with that is wear on components due to high speed shifting, it is a smooth shift but it is still harder than necessary. I also love the feel of a stick shift, it is more involving to drive, and sure your lap time might be down by half a second but in real life that is not of a concern if you are having more fun. For me, it would not be a deal breaker if my next car was F1 or 6spd, I like them both and they are both good to live with. Drive both; buy the one you like more.
NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is exactly how the RUMORS start and why some people are scared of F1's-----PLEASE do not post this crap unless you have PROOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did a poll awhile back about the failure of 355 F1 pumps----with tons of votes and only 2 had a pump failure over 5 years...Neither payed anywhere close to 15K to fix the problem........
I also cannot stand the F1 transmission. I have driven several of them and I really cannot get into them. I feel so lazy and uninvolved in what the car is doing. Sure they are better for the track, but I am no track star. Call me old fashioned I guess.
I have two F1 cars!! 99 355F1 Spider and a 360F1 Modena. They both work perfectly and I have never had a problem with either car. I realize it is a personal preferance, but most peaple who knock the F1 have not owned one. You cannot begin to get the "feel" for an F1 with a test drive. I won't buy anything but a F1.
