F1 vs manual clutch life

He is talking about the F1 pump relay, not a hydraulic valve.

 

Ive put 12k miles on my 360 clutch and comptuer shows i have 88% life left

There is no real mystery here. You need a later TCU in the car so the PIS can be set correctly and adjusted and the clutch wears. I put the TCU from the 2004 model in when i replace dthe clutch as my 360 is a 99 and the original TCU is garbage and doesnt have the necessary functionality

Then you need to baby it into 1st gear and not back up in reverse. Thats all there is to it.

If you do a bunch of take off fast in first from a stop expect to get VERY little life out of it. Once you are rolling in 1st you can drive as hard as you want. I put 3k miles a year on my car and most all of them are in the canyons pushing really hard with lots of redline WOT shifts and downshifting. Its been flawless for 4 years a 12k miles. I've adjusted the PIS once. Takes 3 minutes and my mechanic does it for free

1) Updated TCU
2) Ensure PIS is set correctly (it should roll in 1st when you take the foot off the brake but it should engage with very little throttle input at around 1400 RPM)
3) dont EVER do burnouts or pretend you have launch control - you will roast the clutch
4) Don't go in reverse uphill (minimize reverse in general)


Thats it - i fully expect AT LEAST 50k out of my clutch

 

Off topic.

I read a lot about minimizing reverse in general so I began practicing that with my own car. Sometimes I do it in public and people come over to help push my "disabled" car out of parking stalls. I avoid that now and just reverse lol. I almost always push my car out of the garage though as its fun and somewhat difficult over the weather guard flooring and onto the bulging paver blocks.

As it stands now, I am losing ~1% per ~1k miles.

 

Life is too short to talk about extending clutch life. Enjoy the car while you can. I drive my F1 360 Spider which ever way I feel like it and still have 88% clutch life left at 18K on the odo. Remember, you have to pay to play!
