    Hello Everyone,

This is not the same old question of F1 vs manual transmission. Here is the circumstances, my wife understands me wanting to buy another Ferrari. She does not know how to drive a manual. So I am debating teacher her (on a cheap manual car first) or purchasing a F1 instead of manual. Considering the two transmissions what do you all think? Any of you have your wives or girlfriends drive your Ferrari? Which have you found better F1 or manual? All comments welcome.

    Thank you in advance.
    Tom

F1 is super easy to drive:

F430 F1 is better than 360 CS is better than 05 Maserati Spyder is better than '00 360 F1 is better than F355 F1. You will experience MINIMUM lag if any in acceleration on the F430's F1 and the shifting is lighting fast.

I have successfully failed to teach my girlfriend manual transmission. But she picked up the F1 super easy...and no she actually shifts herself.

My thought, have your friend teach your wife/gf how to drive manual...it's one of those areas guys should probably stay clear.

The amount of time she will spend "learning" manual could be better spent "driving" Ferrari :) While learning manual is easy enough, mastering it is another ball game.

All that comes to mind is the video of the hot blonde chick that has been posted on here 1,000,000 times driving the wheels off a stick 360. Anyway good luck, and post the pictures after she puts it into a tree.... j/k ;)

    I can second that.

It was so so so hard to not comment on her shifting when she was learning.

Does a damn good job of it now though, I'd say go for the stick.

Teach her to drive the stick and get the 6 speed. If she can't (or won't) learn, then she can't drive it.

Get a $1000 beater and teach her to drive a stick.........theres nothing sexier than a woman who can drive a manual and the 6- speed is alot more robust than the F1.

I say go for whatever YOU want and if she wants to drive it she'll learn.

If you get the F1 encourage her not to drive it in Auto, mode can't that cause excessive clutch wear? Also make sure she knows about the whole "don't reverse up a hill too often" thing.

Man, when you think about it a 6spd really may be more simple at least with a six speed you can just throw it in gear and drive it, there are a lot of precautions with an F1. That being said my first F-car will be F1.

If SHE is motivated to learn to drive a stick, then let's face it, it's easy to do. If you are thinking of teaching her but maybe she is not that interested, I'd recommend against it. And if you do it anyway, I would recommend (1) not teaching her yourself and (2) never riding in the car with her when she's driving.

If she wants to learn, you are setting yourselves up to have a lot of fun with the car, and it will become something really special. That's worth more than the price of a clutch.

I found the F1 easier to drive than the stick. The F1 also comes (on my '03 Modena at least) with a button you can push to make it an "AUTOMATIC" transmission, if she chooses to make it even easier. Serious Fcar people probably rarely use this feature, however! Kind of like using cruise control.

F1 is INCREDIBLE if you race/track the car! Reaching down for a stick shift ("hmmmm, now I only have one hand on the steering wheel, and I'm going 130 mph"...) will be a thing of the past if you get the F1.

Besides, F1 shifting is just plain cool!

I'm ASSUMING that a stick has a bit less mechanical problems on average, over time, but I don't know.

If she's one of those people who drive with a latte in one hand then a stick might be kind of tough, but the "automatic" option on the F1 might be better?

There's a difference between learning how to drive stick and actually enjoying it.

If someone doesn't enjoy it, then even a Ferrari manual gearbox is going to be a chore, and I guarantee you the first time she stalls it at a light she will be mortified and hate the car.

If she really wants to learn, go for it. Otherwise, the F1 isn't a bad idea for the marriage.

The stick, the gate, the grind, the whole process is part of driving a car.

Sure manuals in the city can get very old, very fast...but the reason you truly "drive" a car is to be a part of the process.

Get yourself a manual and the wife a Mondial "velostrada" or what ever they called it =)

My wife talked me into getting a boxster with a triptronic trans, so we could both drive it. She NEVER drove it, and I hated it. Get the manual, your girlfriend/wife will not drive the car 99.99999% of the time.

Thank you everyone for all your comments. To answer a few questions, my wife is interested in learning to drive manual. I am much more a manual person than F1. So considering all comments I will get a cheaper manual and have her learn.

Maybe I will have her go to a course. And I can take a more advanced course at the sametime. Thoughts? I hope all of you have a good weekend.

    Sincerely,
    Tom
