Sorry it may sound like launch control to you..but its not.Plus the article dosen't claim that it is like you said it did.
I second the nomination. Where else can you get fact, fiction, knowledge, lack of knowledge all in one place.
Not a chance doesn't work like this at all on my car at least. This is the fact part of the thread. Also the rev matching people are talking about I am sure now is the engine freewheeling once the clutch is engaged at least on mine. If I take my foot off the gas totally it does not do this but with very little throttle pressure it does do this but it also does this if you pull for neutral instead of a downshift. F1 owners try it and I think most would agree.
And a third nomination. I'm gonna PM Rob. This should be a stickey. I just bought a Valeo Mondail. It seems to shift by itself. It's amazing. It's a stick, but it doesn't have a third pedal. I just leave my right foot planted while I shift gears, and the car magically seems to continue to increase revs until I select the next gear... Amazing. All I do is leave my foot firmly pressed on the gas pedal and it blips and perfectly matches revs while I select the next gear. (This is clearly a joke, and rhetorical) Even better, it does it while I down shift. I just keep my foot down and whalah! The revs go up while I shift. I know, I'm an amazing driver which really helps. But this Valeo tranny makes me even better. Come on guys... There's a "blip". A freaking blip when the 355F1 changes gears. It's not at all connected to anything meaningful. It doesn't do anything. It's physically impossible that it has any mechanical synchronization to the motor, timing, or revs. It's just a bunch of nothing. There is no way absolutely positively that the 355 does anything meaningful to raise the revs between either upshifts or downshifts. It's just not possibly given the dynamics of the car. BUT. Don't fear. Don't argue... This is a really really good thing!!!! The F1 system in the 355 is the first and the last system that isn't drive by wire. It's good! Honesty. It's unique. It provides the ability to drive an F1 transmission with the ability to allow the driver to modulate the revs between shifts with, get this, their foot!!! And, for all of the 4 prevalent disbelievers who choose to ignore the facts, or assume that this is some kind of dick measuring contest between 6speed 355 fans and F1 fans, I have made 2 offers on F1 355s this week alone. It's a neat system. No one is trying to put it down. It does what it does. It doesn't do what the 360 and later systems do. It's simply, a matter of fact.
Agreed. What we have here is actual owners have simply reported something that they have observed, asked why it is happening, and a growing mountain of evidence is appearing to back up their observations (ie. something IS happening) You'd think that the response would be more along the lines of helping to explain why it might be happening, but instead you just get told it's not happening, and you are an idiot for thinking that it is. To be fair, some posters have been very helpful. Some have been anything but. The whole thing is hilarious and definitely deserving of a thread of the year nomination.
Agreed, i thought this thread was dead days ago and started to stir the pot with some humor , but yet the argument goes on, its so serious that its comical . The burp , err blip can be easily investigated , someone with an f1 just needs to unplug the the idle air motors and drive the car , see if the burp is still there, just be prepared to clear a check engine light .personslly i cant believe the burp is so exciting , but the argument makes good reading. Some people read novels , watch comedy central for laughs , but the arguments on FC are pure gold , especially when the gloves come offand the hair pulling starts. Lol " serenity now "
A very firm " no thanks " .my right arm and left leg suit my gear changes just fine Burps only required after a big dinner ! " serenity now "
If I was going to buy another F355, an F1 would be a consideration. It would have to be a GTB though.
Just wanted you all to know I took my 6 year old niece for a ride in the 355F1 today (well ok - she's five, but nearly six), and when we got back she said "Your car is the best car ever, Uncle Steve. I particularly liked the way it rev matched on downshifts"* Case closed. *last sentence may or may not have actually happened
3:25 mark in this video. The Ferrari driver is down shifting. Keep your eye on his right leg. He's blipping the throttle manually. The 355F1 needs a proper blip from your foot when down shifting in my opinion. Whatever the car does on its own is not enough for a perfect down shift and still wears the clutch. My 2 cents.
