Has anyone else had a problem with their F12 navigation being unable to display location/map? I get a black screen with a small globe symbol in the middle. No map. It looks like the system is disconnected from GPS signal or something. I have tried turning the system off/on using the Main On/Off button. And, I've tried turning the whole car off with the key, locking the car, unlocking the car, and starting it again. But, nothing seems to get the navigation system to display the map and work correctly. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Maps are on the hard disk so likely the disk crashed hard and nothing can be displayed...

The NIT is a central interface, that handles the sat-nav and radio device, located in the center behind the seats in the F12

NIT is the F acronym for the Navigation and InfoTainment module. Manufactured by Harman International Industries, and sold under its Becker brand.

    A few thoughts...

    1) is it just the NAV, and/or is the rest of the INT (for INfoTainment) working? (radio, iPod, USB, HDD?).

    2) long shot, but a hard reboot (i.e. battery disconnect) might help; the INT continues to draw power even when turned off. It would force a reset on the unit, it may (or may not) help

    3) the INT unit can be reflashed/software reloaded by the dealer (assuming it's a software glitch and not a hardware issue, which is likely).

Not sure when your car was delivered, but our F12 had quite a few INT glitches at delivery, but there was a software update campaign about a month after delivery, seemed to solve most issues. Dealer should be able to easily see Campaign ID and also if your car had it, needs it or if the software revision on the system is the latest.

Hard drive "crashes" are super rare, more likely a software conflict or corruption.

Good luck, please keep us posted.

F for whatever reason call it an NIT.
The F12 NIT service manual extract is attached, which has the download links for the current firmware (only a franchised dealer will be able to access those though). The current (post campaign) F12 European NIT firmware is version 14.08.20.
