Is it possible to order a F12 or is there a long wait list? Is there a USA dealer/salesperson you recommend?
    thanks

Good question.. If you live within 200 miles of a ferrari dealer you are pretty much limited to that dealer. However if you are like me and live outside the 200 mile radius then you can order from any dealer. I have purchased two new ferraris in the last 3 years and cannot really get a clear answer from my dealer other then another year or so .. to order.. I am open to any us dealer ... Not sure thats much help but that has been my experience so far.Of course you can buy used from any dealer..

I don't think the law says this. But I think Ferrari says this. What is more important is up to you....

I can understand that. There's no law that states this. What the law does state, however, is that franchised dealers can do whatever they want once they have an allocation (i.e., Ferrari cannot legally dictate what you do with the current/existing allocation once handed out to the dealership). Ferrari, in turn, has power over future allocations, so if you don't do what Ferrari says, you're likely to shoot yourself in the foot going forward.

The only non-franchise dealer in the US that I'm aware of is Ferrari of San Francisco, which I believe is factory owned (?). I could be mistaken, though.

In general, most dealers prefer to sell to local clients, and this applies to non-Ferrari dealers as well (I've encountered this preference with Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW dealerships). Ultimately, however, if you are a willing, able, reliable client, and show that you're interested in building a long term relationship, I suspect you'll be met with success.
